In case you aren’t on our email list, please read the following letter regarding TFI…
Dear friends,
I have some big news regarding The Food Initiative so please take a few minutes to read and hear my heart.
First, I want to let you know that because of the work and support of our “Curriculum Team” this year, our Project: TED (Think - Eat - Do) program for young kids was incredibly successful this summer. We had over 475 people attend our weekly classes over 10 weeks. The first few weeks, our classes filled up so quickly that we added afternoon classes! Both, kids and adults learned more about their health, the food system, and community and it was a beautiful thing. (I even learned from some of the classes too!)
Coming out of the summer program I, Regina, was praying for direction for The Food Initiative, as well as for our family. Even though everything was so good, something felt off. One afternoon, I was finishing up harvesting peppers and praying and (although I can’t really explain it) I felt God telling me to lay The Food Initiative down and to trust Him into something new.
This was NOT a planned thing! Michael nor I saw this coming, but as soon as I felt God’s direction, I felt peace.
As of December 31, 2022, The Food Initiative will dissolve. The work we've done through The Food Initiative has been so good! That's the hard part about this news. The Food Initiative has been such a powerful tool and resource in our community since 2009 and I'm so, so proud of that! We're going out with our heads held high about all the good things God has done through us.
Michael and I will farm full time now as Iron & Elder Farm and wait on the Lord to guide us as He sees fit. We're mostly really excited about this new chapter for us, but also have moments where we're sad that TFI is coming to a close.
We realize this news probably catches you off guard! Michael or I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to reach out.
I want to thank you for following and supporting The Food Initiative and our mission to grow healthy food, empower lives, and build community.
Sincerely,
Regina H.
