⚖️ Ajax Turner 50+ Center Calls Court Hearing a Victory; Reopening Plans Move Forward

CLARKSVILLE, TENN. — The Ajax Turner 50+ Center is calling Tuesday’s court hearing a major victory as the organization prepares to reopen. 🙌

The hearing began around 9 a.m. and ended near 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Rita, director of the Ajax Turner 50+ Center, told 931Cville that the judge found harm had been done to the nonprofit, found the witnesses who testified to be credible and ruled that the center’s temporary restraining order, or TRO, will remain in place. ⚖️

The TRO prevents the city from attempting to lock the organization out of the building or interfere with its operations while the case continues.

“Today was a win for Ajax,” Rita said. “We prevailed. The truth is on our side.”

According to Russell Cain, USA, Retired, SGM, the judge also addressed four former board members during the hearing. Cain said the judge indicated those former board members were not working in the interest of the nonprofit and that their actions caused harm to the organization.

Rita confirmed Ajax Turner currently has six board members and said the four former board members involved in the dispute are no longer serving.

💰 Rita also confirmed that the City of Clarksville has pulled its funding from the center, meaning Ajax Turner will now rely heavily on community support and fundraising.

“Ajax is standing tall. We are strong, we are still here,” Rita said.

🏢 The center is now working toward reopening, with a possible Aug. 24 reopening date being discussed, although an official date has not yet been announced.

Rita also thanked John Crowe, Kyle Shannon and Pete Olsen for their work during the legal fight and thanked the community for continuing to support the roughly 1,500 seniors served by the center. ❤️

931Cville will provide additional updates once the judge’s written decree is released and an official reopening date is confirmed.

Howdy howdy!

The Ajax Turner senior center will have their day in court tomorrow morning! Excited to stand with them and see this fight through 🫶

There will also be a school board meeting tomorrow at 6pm, and it will also be live streamed for those who can not attend.

I know I've been MIA for the last 11 days, but my goodness, how I've missed so much time with my 6 kiddos. I'm still unsure if I should keep this page to continue sharing information about our community, but I'm happy to as I want to continue to be involved without ever stepping on a ballot again ✅️😂 let me know what yall think. I will absolutely fill yall in on court, and a few other battles that I want to see through to the end 🥹❤️

Give me a few days to rest, and then on to the next fight 🫶

I'll need to figure out what is the best way to continue to serve our community, but with a new found freedom of no longer being on a ballot. There has been so much more going on behind the scenes of my campaign that most didn't know. I logged around 50 hours of volunteering (not including the time that was spontaneous and not logged). We got permanent guardianship of our teen, and adopting our other teen. I became a grandmother and got to stand by our adult daughter as she made me one. Our family had 5 birthdays and grew. I got to smile and spend the election night surrounded by love. I got to fight a few big fights (some I'm still going to be involved in for awhile longer). We brought big conversations to the table that our county had ignored for too long, and I can't be done with that. I spent many nights lacking sleep, and some days I was so busy that I forgot to eat for days. I ran a one woman campaign, without funds, without a team, without a manager, without buying voter information, just a 31 year old north Clarksville redhead with blue glasses in a corolla and fueled by passion for our community.

This weekend I rest, Monday I will be back, and I'll have more freedom than I have had in the last 9 months. You don't have to wait for power to create change, and I hope that is the biggest take away from my campaign 🤠🫡

I'm proud to have lost with my integrity and morals. 10% is an insane result for a campaign that took no shortcuts. No voter information purchased, no funds from developers or PAC money. I gave more to our community than I took, and that feels amazing. I spent the night surrounded by community and didn't know how the race turned out until Clarksville now called. I didn't spend tonight watching the numbers, I spent it with the reason I was on the ballot. Every single vote i got, I know i truly earned with hard work and love for our community. It's been an incredible honor of a lifetime to serve this county and our community 🫶

The watch party/ campaign celebration will be at crossroads tavern tonight at 7. The numbers will be watched, but more importantly, I intend to spend the evening surrounded by the community that I love. In a campaign that isn't controlled by money, every single support was an equally important part of this campaign. I hope to see y'all there, shake some hands, and meet each and every community member who wants to join us tonight. Kids are welcome, and there will be karaoke 😂🤠
