Here is some great information on how to help protect your home from wildfires. Last year's Broken Gate fire was a real wake-up call for us in Westport.

Oregonians are being asked to create more defensible space around their homes, with vegetation modified in that space to reduce wildfire threat and help firefighters defend the house.

Westport Fire extends our deepest appreciation to the Knappa Fire District and the Warrenton Fire Department for standing by our station today so that our personnel could attend the memorial service for our fallen brother- Division Chief Dave Coombs. We are also most thankful to the honors extended to our procession by the Astoria Fire Department, Seaside Fire & Rescue, Clatskanie Rural Fire Protection District, Columbia River Fire & Rescue and Scappoose Fire District. A special shout-out to the Columbia River Fire & Rescue Volunteer Association and Scappoose Fire volunteers for providing logistical support. We are most humbled. Thank you.

***ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING WESTPORT FIRE DIVISION CHIEF COOMB'S MEMORIAL SERVICE***

Westport Fire will lead a small procession of fire engines from Westport to Warren, Oregon on April 27th. The lead fire engine will have Dave's urn onboard to be delivered to the service. The procession will leave Westport at 1045 and arrive at Grace Baptist Church at noon. Westport residents wishing to view the procession and honor DC Coombs are welcome to do so. It is suggested that the parking lots at the Berry Patch restaurant may be the best location. For St. Helens residents, anywhere along Hwy 30 will be fine. It is expected that the procession will arrive in the St. Heles area around 1130. Note: The Westport Community Church parking lot will have fire engines from Clatsop County parked for just a short period to honor the procession.

Also- the memorial will be live streamed from the church via their youtube channel:

Thank you to all who have offered their support and kind words.
