Not every emergency happens at ground level.

Recently, Clayton Fire Department crews conducted High Angle Rescue training inside the water tower at Fire Station 2, using the unique environment to simulate real-world rescue scenarios. These specialized skills prepare firefighters to safely rescue people from elevated, confined, or hard-to-reach locations where traditional rescue methods may not be possible.

Training like this strengthens our team's ability to respond when seconds matter most, so we're ready for the challenges we hope never happen but always prepare for.

It’s the first Monday in June, and we’re excited to introduce Firefighter Kiana Dupre as this month’s feature. Dupre joined the Clayton Fire Department six months ago and is already making her mark as part of the team.

Originally from upstate New York, Dupre has lived in the South since 2017. She says she was drawn to the department for its forward-thinking approach, supportive culture, and opportunities to grow as a firefighter.

On a typical day, Dupre focuses on keeping equipment safe and operational, preparing for emergency responses, completing daily station chores, and participating in ongoing training. “A lot of our time is spent planning, training, and keeping each other motivated,” says Dupre. “It’s really about creating a strong, family-like atmosphere here at the station.”

Dupre’s dedication and perseverance extend beyond the station. Through hard work and commitment to her personal goals, she has transformed her lifestyle and fitness, a determination she brings to every call and training exercise at the department.

Outside of work, Dupre enjoys time with her fiancée, caring for her two cats (Hank and Bean), staying active at the gym, fishing, and exploring the outdoors. She is also planning her upcoming wedding and recently moved into a new house.

We’re thrilled to have Kiana Dupre as part of the Clayton Fire Department and look forward to seeing the impact she’ll continue to make on the department and the community.

Having a few supplies isn’t enough. You need to be ready for a long recovery.

In Clayton, power and water could be out for a week or more after a storm. Make sure your household has what it needs to get through it.

Stock up on:
1. Non-perishable food
2. Water
3. Medications
(Plan for at least seven days per person)

Also include:
1. Extra cash
2. Flashlights
3. Battery-powered radio
4. Portable or solar phone charger

Don’t forget your pets. Have a plan for where they’ll go and pack a pet emergency kit. Not all shelters or hotels accept animals, so plan ahead.

The more you prepare now, the easier recovery will be later. Stay ready, Clayton!

Hurricane Preparedness Week (May 3–9): Generator Safety

When storms hit, power outages can happen in Clayton. Having a generator can help but using it safely is critical.

Portable generators give off carbon monoxide (CO), a gas you can’t see or smell. It can be deadly in minutes.

Always use generators outside, far away from windows, doors, and vents. Never use one inside your home, garage, or porch. Make sure your home also has a working, battery-powered CO detector.

A generator can keep the lights on but using it the wrong way can be dangerous. Stay safe, Clayton!
