Many of Clayton residents have expressed that the Town be more open with information and actions of the Town Council. If no glitches appear, the council meeting Monday night June 17, 2019 will be available for viewing sometime Tuesday on U-tube and the Town website.

In the past months at various times, the Town Council has asked that the ordinances covering speed limits and parking be enforced as stated in the ordinances. In response to residents complaining about speeding in the Glen Laurel development, the Clayton police department started enforcing full stops at stop signs and speeding over 25 MPH. After a few of the residents were stopped, they complained that they wanted the construction vehicles controlled not the residents. Traffic ordinances are passed primarily for safety issues. Therefore ordinances are for the good of the entire community and not to be enforced selectively.

Parking ordinances such as parking on the opposite side of the street from the traffic direction are passed for safety issues also. We, the Town Council has asked the Police Chief to enforce our ordinances. The ordinances apply to all street and neighborhoods and should not be selective.

* Maximizing Town Services without a tax increase
( parks, library, downtown parking )

Town of Clayton election statements from Art Holder

1. My primary goal is to make decisions that promote what is best for the Town of Clayton and it’s residents and businesses)

2. Seek ways to improve activities for seniors. Our population is approximately 1/3 seniors, 1/3 middle ages, and 1/3 younger adults with families. We need to provide for all.

3. Keep the town ahead of the demand for infrastructure issue of water sewer and power. Traffic and school issues are controlled by the state and the county.

4. Listen to our residents as to what they additional improvements they want for the Town of Clayton (parks, recreation, parking local shopping).

5. Seek ways to increase shopping opportunities with more business variety as well as pushing to bring businesses to all vacant retail spaces. (15 vacant spaces at Walmart shopping center)

6. Continue to push for the Clayton Library to become a beacon for education all ages to use. (more space and more programs)

7. Look for a way to enlarge and improve our senior center.

8. Be aware of and promote development opportunities as they appear. At the present time, our cart full with the Nova Nordis project. For information, 700 jobs @ 70,000 per year average is 49 million dollars to the local economy per year. We must make the project go smooth.

9. Look for ways to increase parking facilities in downtown Clayton.

10. Continue to insist that every dollar spent by the Town of Clayton is spent wisely and that good value is received for the expenditure.

11. Continue to monitor and minimize expenditure for non-profit organizations

I hear a lot about Clayton needing a change in leadership. My thought is be careful. The country voted for a change in 2008 and look what it did for the country. A change stould be for the better not worst. The Town of Clayton is in excellent shape. We have one of the highest bond ratings for a Town of our size. The present council is dedicated to doing what is best for the town. We are tight fi**ed and only spend money for the betterment of the town. I hear a lot of comments that we should not vote to allow the town to grow. Growth is what allows the town to offer more services and things our residents want without increasing taxes. Growth is going to happen. Growth is happening all around Clayton outside the town limits. The Town of Clayton shoud get its share of that growth.
