American Wildlife Refuge AWR does raptor rescue and live bird wildlife education. We are all volunteer, and are a registered nonprofit charity.

In our history, we’ve done more 3600 rescues and more than 3200 educational events in the Triangle area. You can participate in AWR educational events, called Porch Visits, by contacting us by phone. American Wildlife Refuge recently released our fourth Bald Eagle of 2026! This was a juvenile female. Working with the Eagle Scouts on an upcoming project for relocating our fire pit, they chose a very fitting name for her. Artemis, goddess of the hunt! She was/is a very fierce and strong eagle. **Disclaimer: We have gotten approval from the parents of the children to share these photos**
