undary between the United States and Canada. Between Clayton and the community of Gananoque on the Canadian side of the river sits Grindstone Island –the fourth largest of the Thousand Islands. The driving connection to Canada is less than ten miles to the north where NYS Route 12 connects with Interstate 81. Today, Clayton is touted as the “Gateway to the Thousand Islands” and with its approximately 15 miles of shoreline is a major destination for fishing, boating and sightseers.
