Iowa Waste Exchange Proudly serving the entire State of Iowa. The Iowa Waste Exchange is one of the nation’s premier materials exchange and technical assistance programs.

The mission of the Iowa Waste Exchange is to provide Iowa industries with waste management alternatives and assistance that result in both economic and environmental benefits including waste reduction from Iowa landfills. Funding is derived from a percentage of landfill tonnage fees. Testimonials, case studies and archived success stories are available upon request. Large events and recreational activities can generate a lot of waste—but they also create powerful opportunities for people to make a difference together.

Recent experiences at RAGBRAI, Iowa Project AWARE, the Cedar River Festival and the NASCAR Iowa Corn 350 demonstrate that successful waste diversion often comes down to three things: clear visual cues, people available to offer guidance and the positive “halo effect” created when attendees see others participating.

Whether recycling along a bike route, recovering materials from a river, separating food scraps at a festival or choosing the right bin at a sporting event, individual actions add up quickly when thousands of people are involved.

Progress does not happen overnight—or accidentally. It grows when organizers make waste reduction visible, convenient and part of the shared experience.

🌎Here are some tips to save some cash and landfill space:
-Make a list and buy only what you need.
-Give last year’s supplies another year of service.
-Choose recyclable products and recycle packaging when possible.
-Bring your own reusable shopping bags.

Growing green together in Clear Lake! 🌿🌻

Highlights from today’s table:

🌻 Thriving Gardens: An attendee shared that their sunflower seeds from our table last year are blooming strong!

🌾 Hand-Harvested: Seeds were personally harvested by IWE Coordinator & Area Resource Specialist Shelene Codner.

♻️ 100% Recycled: Seed Packets are made from rescued materials and built to be reused.

🎃 Save the Date: We'll be back at Pumpkin Palooza at Central Gardens on Saturday, October 10th (4:30 PM – 7:30 PM), where we’ll be crafting pumpkins out of upcycled materials!
