If you have been around downtown you will see we are almost all set for the TRI Clear Lake. Please use caution when in the area and do NOT drive around road closed signs or barricades. We thank you for your cooperation as we gear up for a great event! 🏊🚴‍♀️🏃

To stay "in the know," you can catch all race updates at the TRI Clear Lake page.

We know, we know. Mother Nature is being a BIT unpredictable.

Here's what we can tell you right now. We are going to do everything we possibly can to give you a race on Saturday morning. We are working with the National Weather Service, local law enforcement, and USA Triathlon to build contingency plans. Racing Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning are not options.

Our best advice is to watch this page and your email for updates. The final decision won't be made until the morning. So be flexible and ready!

In the meantime, enjoy Clear Lake, watch the kids' Splash & Dash at 6:30 p.m., and do a few anti-rain dances.

Signage placement in the Right-of-Way Prohibited

As summer is winding down we are noticing a number of private signs that are being placed in the city right-of-way (ROW) or attached to street signs. The city would like to remind all residents that as you plan to advertise for your events, signage cannot be placed within the city right-of-way, or attached to street signs.
What is the city right-of-way? This generally refers to land or the grassy area between the curb and the sidewalk that is legally owned or controlled by the city. It also includes the travel portion of the street, curbs and sidewalk. The right-of-way services various purposes, including: ensuring the safe travel for vehicles & pedestrians; accommodating public utilities like water lines, sewer lines, electric cables and fiberoptics. No signage is allowed to be placed in this area outside of traffic control, street lights and public informational signage as provided by the municipality.

These regulations are designed to ensure clear visibility is maintained for both pedestrians and drivers. It also maintains the aesthetic look of public spaces and protect essential infrastructure. Signs that are displayed in a manner that is against city code are subject to disposal by the city without notice. For more information on the where and when you can place signs, you can contact the City Building Inspector at 641-357-6135 or review chapter 165 of the city code at www.cityofclearlake.com

Back to School is right around the corner! Check out these helpful tips from the Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau about approaching school buses in traffic. Kadyn's Law (Iowa Senate File 2218) was passed in 2012 to increase safety around school buses and to protect students getting on and off the bus. First offense violations could result in costly fines and a driver's license suspension of at least 30 days.
