Noticed grocery prices are going up? Hearing about our city's awesome Farmer's Market and hoping to put some food away for winter? Not sure about how to do all the cool canning and food preservation stuff, and wish you had a class that was hands-on?
Yep. We promised, and now we're doing it.
Check out the flier below.

Classes will fill VERY quickly, is my guess. So if you are reading this and you want to learn anything about canning or dehydrating, then call us. 874-2013. Each class will hold 10 people. If we get a crazy response and we think there's enough folks to fill another class, we will figure out a way to set up a different time. Each class is $15 per person, and all will be held here in the kitchen across from the Library in the City Building. Detailed emails will be sent out with what you need to bring and what you will be learning how to do during the class you chose. Everyone goes home with preserved items. And when you're home in your own kitchen trying to do it on your own...your Library is just a call away and will do our best to help you. :D

From Heather: I've been gardening, canning and dehydrating, and teaching folks how to do it for more than 25 years. Lots of experience, I think I can teach just about anyone how to do any of these. :D Before I was your Library Director I ran a very successful Blog with 40k readers a month teaching all of these things and more, so this area is my jam...pun intended. :D

As we promised...here are our canning and preservation classes for this summer.

Just under 24 hours until our amazing TieDye and Popsicles party tomorrow!
We have had some commonly asked questions, so let's go through them...

1. YES...we have 50 bandanas, but no shirts currently. So if you want a shirt, hat, or other item, bring it with you. 1 item per person.

2. DO NOT have your kids wear nice clothing. Tie-dye parties are chaos, and done at your own risk. *wink* so expect smudges on shoes or shirts or shorts. Or faces. Or any other possible thing you can think of, although we try really hard to help them not be messy.

3. It will be outside. Rain is expected at 26%, but we are totally capable of handling that. :D

4. We have rubber bands. We have bags for the article of clothing or a bandana. We have all the stuff. Thank you for wondering. We will of course take any extras you have hanging around from your OWN parties if you wish to bring it. The more tie-dye the merrier.

5. It is a come-and-go party. It's our only kid program of the day, and we are inviting everyone from 0-18 to participate, and parents must stay if there are children under 12. We are so thankful for you! Have them make their stuff, grab a popsicle, and eat it outside, then stay or go!

6. While we will do our very best to stretch everything in case our kids' program is mobbed by wildly fabulous attendance... once we run out, we are done. :( Miss Heather and Jaden both are already brainstorming ideas in case this happens, such as ice dyed tempura paint items, etc, but we will have to stop sometime.

I hope to see you all here! Any other questions, drop them below.
~Heather

Earlier this week, we received our South Dakota State Park Pass. This pass is available to all patrons and can be checked out once a month for up to 3 days! We have already had several weekends through October. If you would like a weekend and to guarantee your spot with our free checkouts, then we recommend calling the library or stopping by the library to reserve your dates. This card can be used at any time of the week or year. Once you have used the card, we ask that you complete the survey to help us prove that the card is in use, so that we can continue to acquire the pass for the coming year! Join us in exploring South Dakota's State Parks this year!

This event will be for all ages. We encourage you to have someone over 18 join if you have any children under 12, especially if you have more than one child joining. We do recommend bringing your own item to tie-dye. We will have some items available, but we can't guarantee there will be enough for everyone. This event will run from 2 to 4pm. A popsicle will be provided after a child has finished tie-dying their item.
