**Warning (Tornado) Siren Testing at 1:45pm today, April 16th 2026**

While we understand that the State of Wisconsin Emergency Management has decided to cancel the officially scheduled Tornado Drill this year, the Village of Clear Lake has new equipment installed that we need to test to ensure our readiness for severe weather. We will continue as originally planned with a brief 1:45pm test of the warning siren. Thank you for your understanding!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

**Press Release **
MADISON, Wis. – The annual statewide tornado drills scheduled for Thursday, April 16, 2026, are being canceled in light of recent severe weather events that have impacted communities across Wisconsin. There will not be an alternative date for these drills.

The decision comes as emergency management, local agencies, and people are actively responding and recovering from the impacts of these recent storms. ReadyWisconsin determined proceeding with the scheduled drills would place additional strain on already stretched resources as many communities continue to deal with storm impacts, assessing damage, and supporting affected family members and loved ones.

“While tornado preparedness is critically important, our immediate priority is on the safety and recovery of those impacted by these recent storms,” said Wisconsin Emergency Management Administrator Greg Engle. “We recognize the value of these drills, but at this time, our communities need the flexibility and focus on real-world responses.”

ReadyWisconsin encourages people to still be informed about tornado safety, review personal emergency plans, and remain vigilant year-round for potential severe weather and tornadoes. Resources and guidance on tornado safety can be found at https://readywisconsin.wi.gov/tornadoes/.

The next statewide tornado drills for Wisconsin are scheduled for April 15, 2027.

Joint Statement: Raising the Bar and Clear Lake Police Department Partner to Ensure Bingo Events Are Conducted Legally and Responsibly

Clear Lake, WI
November 7, 2025

— Raising the Bar and the Clear Lake Police Department are pleased to announce a joint effort to ensure that all bingo events held in the Clear Lake community are conducted in full compliance with Wisconsin state law. This partnership reflects both organizations’ ongoing commitment to integrity, transparency, and community trust.

Working collaboratively, Raising the Bar and the Clear Lake Police Department have reviewed the applicable charitable gaming regulations to ensure that any future bingo events are lawful, properly licensed, and respectful of the community’s expectations. Both parties share the same goal — to create a safe, enjoyable, and legally compliant environment for all participants.

In light of recent community discussion and interest surrounding bingo activities, Raising the Bar and the Clear Lake Police Department would like to provide clear and accurate information about Wisconsin’s charitable gaming laws.

Under Wisconsin state law, only nonprofit organizations that have been in existence for at least three years are eligible to apply for a charitable gaming (bingo) license. As of July 3, 2025, the fee for each bingo occasion listed on the application is $20, and the fee for the designated responsible member is $10. Each bingo event must be identified in advance (recurring events are permitted) and must fall within the organization’s 12-month license period.
Local nonprofit organizations that meet these criteria may legally conduct bingo events in approved venues such as Raising the Bar, provided that all requirements of the Wisconsin Division of Gaming and applicable local regulations are followed.

Both Raising the Bar and the Clear Lake Police Department view this collaboration as a positive example of community partnership and open communication. By working together, the two parties have demonstrated their shared dedication to doing things the right way and ensuring that community events are held responsibly and within the bounds of the law.

“Raising the Bar is committed to following the law and moving forward together with the Clear Lake Police Department and our community,” said Jim Bade, Owner of Raising the Bar. “We’re proud to have worked through this process constructively and transparently.”

“The Clear Lake Police Department appreciates the cooperative spirit shown by Raising the Bar throughout this process,” said Police Chief Paul Houx. “This collaboration highlights how local businesses and law enforcement can work hand-in-hand to support community events while maintaining fairness, compliance, and the shared values that make Clear Lake such a great place to live.”

The willingness of both Raising the Bar and the Clear Lake Police Department to communicate openly and address questions directly is a testament to their shared commitment to the Clear Lake community and its residents.

🚫 Keep Highways Safe: Don’t Place Signs in the Right of Way! 🚫

Did you know placing signs in the right of way on highways can be dangerous and illegal? In Wisconsin, state laws strictly regulate the placement of signs along the state highway system right-of-way—and for good reason.

Here’s why you should avoid placing signs in these areas:

⚠️ Safety First:
Signs can obstruct visibility, especially at intersections, creating dangerous conditions for drivers. Signs in the right of way can also distract motorists and lead to accidents.

📜 Legal Consequences:
• Wis. Stat. § 86.04: No sign, advertisement, or structure is allowed in the highway right of way without approval. Specifically, signs on state highways must be placed at least 33 feet from the centerline of the road.
• Wis. Stat. § 86.19: Signs within the right of way of state highways that obstruct visibility or create traffic hazards will be removed by authorities.
• Wis. Stat. § 84.30: Unauthorized signs may be removed and disposed of, with possible fines for the responsible party.
• Polk County: For county roads, the right-of-way extends beyond the shoulders and ditches. The exact distance varies, but placing signs within this area can obstruct visibility, disrupt road maintenance, and pose a safety hazard.

🏡 Posting on Private Property? Make sure you have permission from the property owner before posting signs.

--Important Enforcement Notice: US 63 and CTH F--

While we historically try to balance enforcement with reasonableness, we’ve received several complaints today about the safety of US 63 and CTH F. Even though signs have been placed there in the past, we will be enforcing this area more strictly from now on.

Today alone, three signs were found in the median at the intersection of US 63 and CTH F, and a fourth sign was placed along the road. This poses a significant safety risk to motorists and disrupts the flow of traffic.

• Signs in the median will be immediately removed by law enforcement or the highway department in the interest of public safety.

• Signs not directly in the center of the road will be handled by the highway department and may be removed if they pose a safety risk.

Let’s all do our part to ensure that these roads remain safe for everyone.
