CPCA Responds to SNAP Freeze and State Budget Impasse
Central Pennsylvania Community Action (CPCA) and its network of food pantries are closely monitoring the impact of the SNAP benefit freeze on local families. While it is still early, CPCA anticipates that demand for food assistance will rise in the coming weeks as households adjust to this change.
To ensure an effective, coordinated response, CPCA has implemented a monthly reporting system across all pantry sites in Centre and Clearfield Counties to track changes in real time. This allows the agency to identify shortages, monitor community needs, and allocate resources where they are needed most. CPCA continues to coordinate with local partners, volunteers, and community organizations to ensure that no one in the community goes hungry.
At the same time, CPCA is operating under increased strain. Due to the ongoing state budget impasse, CPCA and many community service providers have not received state funds since July 2025. This delay has created significant challenges in maintaining operations and planning for the months ahead. Despite this, staff and volunteers remain fully committed to serving individuals and families in need.
โ€œWe are deeply grateful for the generosity of local residents, churches, and businesses that continue to support our food pantry operations,โ€ said Michelle Stiner, Executive Director of CPCA. โ€œTheir kindness allows us to stretch every resource further during this uncertain time.โ€
CPCA will continue to assess pantry capacity, share updates with the community, and advocate for the support needed to ensure that every family has access to essential food and resources. Anyone wishing to assist can visit www.cpcaa.net or contact the CPCA offices directly.
