🚨RESCUE ASSIST🚨
On Monday, a Good Samaritan assisted four people approximately 25 miles west of Homosassa, Florida, after their 47-foot fishing vessel started taking on water. Thankfully, no injuries were reported!
Our Coast Guard crews in the Southeast District remain ready to save lives and protect our waterways, but remember: boating safety starts before you ever leave the dock. We remind all mariners to ensure all required safety gear is onboard prior to heading out for a day on the water.
Before you get underway, make sure to:
✅Wear your life jacket: Ensure you have Coast Guard-approved life jackets for everyone onboard.
✅Carry required gear: Keep essential items, such as fire extinguishers, accessible and
inspected.
✅Register your EPIRB: Don’t forget to register your Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon.
An unregistered EPIRB can delay rescue crews’ response, create uncertainty, and cost valuable time during search and rescue cases.
Stay prepared and stay safe on the water! Je
