FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 24, 2026
Cleburne, Texas (August 24, 2026) – A Cleburne police officer was injured Monday evening in an officer-involved shooting following a pursuit that began in Cleburne and ended in Burleson.

At approximately 6:50 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, Cleburne Police Officers responded to a report of an individual brandishing a firearm. The individual was in a vehicle, and a pursuit ensued after officers arrived. The pursuit continued through Alvarado and north on Interstate 35W before ending near Sam’s Club in Burleson (600 N. Burleson Blvd.).

Shots were fired during the incident. The individual was struck and pronounced deceased at the scene.

One Cleburne Police Officer was struck in the leg by gunfire during the incident and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The officer is reported to be in stable condition.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. The information provided is preliminary, and additional details will be confirmed as the investigation progresses.

As per Department protocol, the Texas Rangers were notified and responded to the scene. The Texas Rangers will be conducting the investigation surrounding this incident. All inquiries should be directed to DPS – Ranger Division.

A successful resolution to a case that required dedication, collaboration, and countless hours of work. We are proud of everyone involved in seeking justice for these victims and holding this offender accountable.

We want to extend our deepest appreciation to the Cleburne Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Public Safety and prosecutors who worked tirelessly on this case.
Their dedication, teamwork, and determination brought justice forward in a situation that was far from easy. This outcome reflects the strength and commitment of those who protect our community every day.
Let this stand as a reminder that we will always fight for the safety and protection of every child in our county. Our commitment to them remains unwavering, and we will continue working to make this community a safer place for all.

Our own Officer Mackey was recognized over the weekend at the Cleburne Railroaders ⚾ as a Hometown Hero 🚓 during Cleburne Independent School District Night!

As part of the recognition, Officer Mackey also had the honor of throwing out the first pitch. We are proud to see him recognized for his dedication to serving our community, schools, and students. Congratulations, Officer Mackey, on this well-deserved honor!

We are wrapping up our Back to School: Meet Your SRO series with Officer Mackey, who is beginning his sixth year as an SRO and serves Smith Intermediate School!

Officer Mackey is 55 years old, his favorite color is black⚫, and his favorite treats are Dr Pepper🥤 and dark chocolate 🍫. His teacher was Officer Fox, he loves Smith Intermediate, and he dreams of being the best SRO he can be!

When you see Officer Mackey on campus, don't forget to say hello. He anticipates another successful and safe school year!

Officer Hall is 42 years old; his favorite color is blue 💙, and his favorite snack is Blue Bell Cookie Two Step ice cream 🍨. He lists Jesus as his teacher, loves his family, and dreams of one day becoming a retiree!
