CELEBRATING CLEMSON! 🧡 At this year's annual State Of Clemson, Mayor Halfacre and Interim President Jones highlighted successes from the past year. A special focus was given to the Joint City-University Advisory Board, which spotlights what makes Clemson special and collaborates with innovative ideas to keep it that way.

❓ DID YOU KNOW? Starting this summer, during each of Clemson University’s Ready, Set, Roar sessions, many of our local businesses will offer families discounts on various merchandise and services. That's only one of the numerous ways our seven JCUAB Committees are working toward a stronger Clemson.

"Everything we do is for the people of Clemson. We’re proud of how far we’ve come and even more excited for what’s next," said Mayor Halfacre.

Congratulations to Ruthie Millar, Director of Community Outreach for Clemson Downs, for winning the Catherine Smith Award, honoring outstanding service to the Clemson Area Chamber of Commerce and local community. 👏

We invite you to explore the City's website for a retrospective on the remarkable milestones and collaborative triumphs achieved by each JCUAB Committee throughout 2025.

805! That's how many free trees were given away at our annual Energy Saving Free Tree Giveaway. 🌳 A major thank you to everyone who joined us and made this event such a success! It was wonderful seeing so many of you take the opportunity to add more green to your yards. In partnership with TreesUpstate and Duke Energy, we officially broke our record for the biggest single giveaway to date.

These trees will contribute not only to Clemson's 48% tree canopy but also to our neighboring cities. ❓ Did you know every year, Clemson's tree canopy soaks up 11.6 million gallons of stormwater during major storms, absorbs 12,078 metric tons of carbon and cleans 79,577 pounds of air pollutants to help us breathe?

🎉 Phase One of the Downtown Streetscape Project is officially underway! While we’re excited about creating a more inviting, pedestrian-friendly destination for residents and visitors alike, we want to make sure you’re prepared for the construction ahead. 🚧

You will see a significant visual difference next week when trees are removed. 🌳 Did you know the City has a one-for-one replacement program for public trees? By the end of the project, there will be 30 new trees, along with other decorative shrubs, to replace the 24 trees removed (and then some!). The new trees will far exceed the eco-benefits provided by the smaller Crape Myrtles.

🅿️❗ Starting Monday, March 30, parking on Sloan Street will be unavailable for a short time to accommodate work changing the street's direction. Looking ahead, Sloan Street at College Avenue will be closed for two days in late April for the reconstruction of the Sloan Street exit.

SC Forestry Commission issuing statewide Red Flag Fire Alert, effective immediately

COLUMBIA—The South Carolina Forestry Commission is issuing a statewide Red Flag Fire Alert, effective immediately until further notice.

The alert is being issued to strongly discourage people from burning outdoors when weather conditions present an elevated risk of wildfire. In addition to drought intensifying from a lack of significant rainfall, forecasts are calling for higher winds, low humidities and no precipitation in the foreseeable future.

A Red Flag Fire Alert does not prohibit outdoor burning, provided that all other state and local regulations are followed, but the Forestry Commission uses the alert to strongly encourage citizens to voluntarily postpone any such burning until the alert is lifted. Because current weather conditions are very conducive to fires escaping easily and spreading rapidly, anyone considering outdoor burning should take extra precautions if they still choose to burn under a Red Flag.

“The combination of dangerous conditions and dry fuels we’re going to see statewide for the next several days all add up to an elevated wildfire risk, and any fire that ignites is likely to burn intensely and spread rapidly,” said SCFC Fire Chief Darryl Jones. “With this alert, we’re asking people to respect the weather and hold off from burning outdoors until the weather improves. If you have burned recently, we encourage you to monitor the burn area to make sure the dry conditions don’t cause it to rekindle.”

Adding to the danger, particularly in the western part of the state, are the heavy fuel loads that remain in our forests from Hurricane Helene. Not only can these downed, drying trees and other fuels act as kindling, increasing the risk of wildfire ignition and spread, but they also are likely to impede firefighters’ access, adversely impacting response capability.

Although a Red Flag Fire Alert does not ban outdoor burning, it does trigger certain county or local ordinances that restrict outdoor fires, so residents should contact their local fire departments to check whether such restrictions apply in their areas. The alert will remain in effect until lifted by the Commission, whose fire managers will continuously monitor the situation.

☀️ As the sun goes down on Sunshine Week, which occurs every March to highlight the importance of transparent government and access to information, the City of Clemson wants to reinforce our commitment to clear communication regarding a FOIA lawsuit filed against the City dating back to August 2024.

Open access to information strengthens public understanding and trust. South Carolina's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides that citizens have the right to access certain public records and documents.

For the most recent update and information regarding this lawsuit, all City Council meetings and relevant public documents can be accessed on our website. 🔗 https://www.clemsoncity.org/550/3707/FOIA-Lawsuit-Updates.

"This is just one extra way to show that we care." 🚔 For decades, the Clemson Police Department has provided an Elderly Assistance Line to residents with special needs, disabilities or medical conditions that may require a wellness check or extra support during an emergency. The severe weather we've experienced this week reminds us just how important this connection is.

"The impact that it has had on our community has been great... It was great for their minds. It was great for their health," Captain Matt Culbreath said.

If you're interested in signing up, you can visit the Police Department in person to fill out a form or visit our website. Help us reach those who need us most by sharing this post and making sure no one is left behind. 🧡
