Found safe is the outcome everyone wants.

MyNewsLA reported that a 34-year-old Lancaster woman who had been classified as an at-risk missing person was found safe after authorities asked for the public's help locating her.

The alert system addresses the urgent search question: Where is the person?

There is another question worth planning for in any case where a vulnerable person is found but cannot reliably communicate: What does the first person helping them know about who they are, who should be contacted and what emergency information they chose to make available?

Scan If Hurt™ is a Personal Emergency Profile controlled by the individual. A scannable Safety ID can make chosen information available when that person cannot speak for themselves. It is not tracking, and it does not replace supervision, missing-person alerts, 911, law enforcement, EMS or medical care.

The search and the information problem are different parts of preparedness. Both matter when the goal is getting someone home safely.

Central Florida families are getting a serious warning about e-bikes and e-scooters.

WFTV reported that Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children saw 124 pediatric e-bike and e-scooter emergency visits from January through July 2026, compared with 57 during all of 2024. Children ages 11 to 13 represented the largest group of patients.

Those numbers are difficult to read, especially for any parent whose child rides.

A lot of the conversation right now is appropriately focused on prevention: helmets, speed, rules, training and making sure kids understand the risks. All of that matters.

But there is another part of an accident that receives far less attention: what happens in the minutes after something goes wrong? If a child is badly injured and cannot answer questions, the first person trying to help may know nothing about them. Who are they? Who should be called? Is there information a parent would want a helper or responder to know? That period is what we call The Information Gap™.

Scan If Hurt™ was built after our own experience with a horrible tragedy. That experience changed the way we think about emergencies and the information people may need when someone they love cannot speak for themselves. It is why stories like this matter deeply to us.

Prevention matters. Helmets matter. Safer riding matters. And when prevention fails, information matters too.

What happens when the one person with the answers cannot give them?

Children's Hospital Colorado reports e-bike trauma in young riders up 184% and e-scooter trauma up 84% (Denver Gazette). Prevention matters, helmets, training, supervision. But a serious crash can create a second problem in seconds. If a young rider is unconscious or confused, the First Helper may need answers the rider cannot give. Who are they? Who should be contacted? That is The Information Gap™.

Scan If Hurt™ is built for that moment. A Personal Emergency Profile that shares the information a person chose to make available, by scan, when they cannot speak for themselves. It does not replace helmets, 911, EMS or medical care. It prepares for the first minutes after a crash.

A recent Johns Hopkins All Children's story about e-bike safety included one detail that immediately stood out to me. After a 15-year-old rider crashed, a Good Samaritan was calling 911 while the injured teen was trying to get someone to call his father. That moment is exactly why we talk about The Information Gap™. Most e-bike safety conversations rightly focus on prevention: helmets, training, speed and safer riding. But when prevention fails, the first person on scene may suddenly become the First Helper for someone who is injured, confused or unable to communicate. Who are they? Who should be called? What information would their family want available while 911 and EMS are responding? Scan If Hurt™ was built around that post-incident problem. Not to prevent the crash, and not to replace EMS, but to help close the information gap when someone cannot speak for themselves.
