Coffee, conversation, and community!

Dr. O’Brien stopped by The Crossing Coffee Shop Thursday morning for Coffee with the Mayor, where he had the opportunity to meet and visit with local community members.

Some of the best conversations happen over a good cup of coffee, and this morning was no exception. The coffee shop was buzzing with new introductions, friendly conversation, and warm welcomes to the community.

We are grateful for opportunities like these to connect, build relationships, and spend time with the people who make our community such a special place.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of celebrating four outstanding educators at the Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year Luncheon!

Mrs. Green, Mrs. Papp, Mrs. Parma, and Mrs. Shelton were honored as Tarkington ISD’s 2025-2026 Teachers of the Year, representing the dedication, compassion, and excellence found throughout our district.

During the luncheon, Dr. O’Brien shared heartfelt reflections about teachers who made a lasting impact on his own life and spoke about the powerful influence educators have on the students they serve. Long after lessons and assignments are forgotten, it is often a teacher’s heart, encouragement, and belief in a child that leaves the greatest impression.

We are so proud to celebrate these four remarkable teachers and grateful to the Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce for hosting a wonderful luncheon that honored educators and the profession they have dedicated their lives to.

Congratulations, Mrs. Green, Mrs. Papp, Mrs. Parma, and Mrs. Shelton! We are proud to have you representing Tarkington ISD!

Tarkington ISD has been closely monitoring the weather. After meeting with area superintendents and regional weather experts to review the latest information and conditions, Tarkington ISD has made the decision to hold school as scheduled for Wednesday, September 2.

The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. District and campus staff will continue to monitor conditions and are prepared to take appropriate action if needed.

All school operations, during-school activities, after-school activities, and events across the district will continue as scheduled at this time.

We will continue to monitor weather conditions for the remainder of the week and will provide updates as needed.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to keep our students, staff, and families safe.

Weather Update Coming---

We know families need time to make plans, and we want to provide a decision regarding school reopening as soon as possible.

We’re tracking the impact of Tropical Storm Edouard and what it could mean for TISD. Area superintendents will be meeting with regional weather experts to look at the latest information and conditions @ 7:30 via a Zoom call. Once we’ve had that conversation, we’ll make a call about school operations for Wednesday, September 2nd.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make the best decision for our students, staff, and families. Safety will remain our top priority, and we will share an update as soon as a decision has been made.

Tarkington ISD has been closely monitoring the weather and current forecasts. Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students, staff, and families, Tarkington ISD will be closed Tuesday, September 1, 2026, due to inclement weather. All classes, after-school activities, and district events are cancelled.
The TISD instructional calendar includes designated minutes for weather-related closures. Therefore, Tuesday’s closure will not require any calendar adjustments at this time.
A decision regarding district closure for Wednesday will be made and communicated by 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we work to keep our students, staff, and families safe.
Please continue to monitor district communications for any additional updates.

The Superintendent Snack Squad is on the move!
Today, the Superintendent Snack Squad made a surprise stop at Tarkington Middle School!

Dr. O’Brien loaded up a cart with snacks and drinks and set off down the halls, knocking on classroom doors and delivering a little treat as a thank-you to our amazing teachers and staff.

The smiles, laughter, and surprised faces made it such a fun day! Sometimes, a little snack and a simple “thank you” can go a long way.

We appreciate everything our TMS staff does each day for our students and our district. You are valued, you are appreciated, and you make a difference!
What a great day to be Longhorn.
