Hurricane Helene timber salvage continues in the area near Little Milligan Boat Ramp. In support of recreation visitors during the holiday weekend, the boat ramp will be temporarily reopened starting June 19. A safety closure will resume on June 21 at 9p.m.

The Cherokee National Forest hosted several great events for National Trails Day Saturday, June 6.

North Zone:
Cherokee National Forest Watauga Ranger District partnered with Backcountry Horseman of East Tenn., Holston Mountain Hikers, and SAWS for National Public Lands Day in Sullivan County, TN. Volunteers and Forest Service employees cleaned up Flint Mill Trailhead, Morrell Trailhead, Old Dug Trailhead, Crossroads intersection, powerline ROW, and approximately three miles of trash pick-up along Flatwoods Rd and nearly six miles of trash pick-up along Holston Mtn Rd. Sullivan County Solid Waste Dept provided a roll-off dumpster for us.

South Zone:
We partnered with Southern Appalachian Backcountry Horseman (SABCH) to complete work on the Conasauga River Trail. Volunteers along with Forest Service staff logging and brushing large sections of the trail.

We also dispatched our volunteer mountain-bike saw team, Ocoee Trail Responders (OTR) on Chestnut Mountain Trail and Thunder Rock Express Trail.

Little Milligan Boat Launch will temporarily reopen Friday for the Memorial Day Weekend while timber salvage is temporarily suspended. Little Milligan Boat Launch will close again at 9p.m. May 25 and salvage timber operations are scheduled to resume Tuesday.
