Memphis & Pearl Project Update 6/22/2026 ⬇️🚨

Following the completion of environmental testing and monitoring, demolition activities are scheduled to begin this week at the Memphis & Pearl site.

The first phase of work will focus on the removal of the vacant single-family house and the former Greenline Building. Barring unforeseen conditions, both structures are expected to be demolished by the end of the week. Following demolition, environmental remediation crews will continue work over the next two weeks to safely remove and properly dispose of remaining hazards.

Many residents have asked about the future of the historic St. Luke’s Church building. The church annex (commonly referred to as the St Luke’s education wing) is not scheduled for demolition this week.

Over the past several weeks, crews have removed interior materials from the connection point between St. Luke’s Church and the later-added education wing. This work was necessary to expose structural elements that were previously hidden within the walls. With those areas now accessible, our engineering team can complete a detailed evaluation of how the two buildings are connected and determine the safest and most effective method for removing the education wing while preserving and stabilizing the church structure.

Because the structural conditions could not be fully assessed until the interior spaces were opened, additional engineering review is required before a final demolition plan for the education wing can move forward.

We appreciate the community’s patience as this work continues. While demolition is often the most visible part of a project, careful environmental remediation and structural evaluation are critical steps in ensuring the site is prepared safely and responsibly for its next chapter.
