While su***de affects families year-round, National Su***de Prevention Month occurs every September to remind us of the important conversations surrounding this topic.

At the ADAMHS Board, one of our most important roles is to support community organizations and coalitions that do the work every day. September is a great time to join these groups like the Cuyahoga County Su***de Prevention Coalition, which provides hope and resources to individuals in crisis and those affected by su***de. ***depreventionmonth

Did you know that today is International Overdose Awareness Day? We pause to remember those we have lost to overdose and stand with individuals, families and communities affected by substance use disorder.

To help increase awareness, we partnered with Thrive For Change to fund outreach and education efforts across Cuyahoga County. Over the weekend, their team connected with more than 1,500 people, distributing 1,100 doses of Narcan and partnering with 11 local businesses to help make lifesaving resources more accessible.

It's also important to note that there have been many recent changes in the overdose crisis. Co***ne is now the leading drug in overdose deaths. Visit signsofOD.org to learn more about local resources.

As football season continues to approach, excitement (as well as the urge to gamble) ramps up.

Before placing a bet, remember that gambling should never be a way to make money or cope with stress. If gambling is negatively affecting your life or someone you care about, help is available. https://bit.ly/4yCYokj

Co***ne is increasingly being cut with fentanyl across Cuyahoga County, and 23% of recent overdose deaths involved both substances. This makes overdoses harder to predict and more dangerous.

That's why the Cuyahoga County's Medical Examiner's Office, the ADAMHS Board and other community partners built this awareness campaign to connect residents with real, local tools before an overdose happens.

Help spread the word. These tools are free, confidential and could save someone's life: signsofOD.org

According to SAMHSA, approximately 87% of children ages 6–11 spend about 2 hours or more per weekday outside of school using electronic devices to watch programs, play games, access the internet or use social media. Finding balance at home can make a difference.

Parents can prioritize healthy screen use by setting device-free times, encouraging outdoor play and making space for conversations to help support your child's mental well-being.
