🔵⚫️ POLICE MEMORIAL WEEK ⚫️🔵
President John F. Kennedy established Police Memorial Week in 1962 to honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of law enforcement officers. We recognize those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those continue to serve and protect the communities they serve each and every day.
There are 27,358 recorded line of duty deaths for law enforcement officers in the United States. Cleveland PD honors two of those names this week:
🔹Patrolman Bud C. Cash
End of Watch 04/21/1955
-Policeman Bud Cash was killed when his patrol car collided with a patrol car from the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.
Policeman Cash and another officer were escorting an ambulance from the scene of an accident. The deputies in the patrol car were responding to the scene of the same accident. The two patrol cars collided at the intersection of Inman and Ocoee Streets.
The other policeman, both deputies, and a pedestrian were injured as a result of the crash.
Policeman Cash had served with the Cleveland Police Department for approximately 1 year. He had previously served 6 years as sheriff of Bradley County and as a deputy prior to serving as sheriff
He was survived by his wife, son, four sisters, and two brothers.
🔹 Officer Justin D. Maples
End of Watch 05/20/2012
-Police Officer Justin Maples was killed in a single vehicle crash on South Lee Highway at approximately 9:30 pm.
His patrol car left the roadway and struck a telephone pole, causing severe damage. He was transported to SkyRidge Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries 50 minutes later.
Officer Maples had served with the Cleveland Police Department for seven years. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and parents.
Please remember those our department has lost, as well as those lost from across the county, not just this week, but every day. We are thankful to live in a community who supports us all year. We are honored to wear a badge and call Cleveland home.
