Last week our chapter and the Watershed Volunteer Program (WVP) assisted Cleveland Metroparks in planting 103 trees at Hinckley Reservation on 17 acres of newly acquired land! This planting was one of the many that we’ve done in our contribution to Trees for You and Me as our chapter not only supported in the manpower, but also the funding of some of the trees as well. Trees for You and Me (TFYM) is a National AAZK program that is a tree-planting conservation program created to help combat climate change and aid communities in sustainability initiatives. The trees planted were done so in “pods”, or group of fenced in protected trees, and were planted with the intention of adding onto a already existing pollinator field.
The funds for the trees were made possible by the coin well at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. If you’d like to contribute, you can find the coin well in the Primate Cat & Aquatic building where you can deposit any change you have! Our chapter collects, cleans, rolls, and deposits the change to our TFYM fund.

We want to say a massive THANK YOU to all of our generous donors for our 2026 trivia fundraiser for gorilla conservation, Save the Silverbacks at BottleHouse. 🦍

A special shoutout to our event partner, BottleHouse Brewery Cleveland Heights, for donating a portion of the night’s sales and creating a unique signature cocktail for us to enjoy! 🍻🍹

Thanks to everyone’s incredible support, we raised nearly $3,000 for donation to the AZA SAFE Gorilla program! 🌍 These funds are directed to vital on-the-ground fieldwork, habitat protection, and community programs in Africa. Resources are focused heavily on protecting the two most critically endangered gorilla subspecies: Grauer’s gorillas (The Democratic Republic of the Congo 🇨🇩) and Cross River gorillas (Cameroon 🇨🇲 and Nigeria 🇳🇬).

We truly could not have done this without our amazing community. Swipe through our photos to see plenty of smiling faces, it seemed like there was something there for everyone 📸 We hope to see everyone again next year!

Dr. Ken Abraham, Emeritus Research Scientist with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Trumpeter Swan Conservation Ontario and TTSS Conservation Committee Chair.

Dr. Michael Anderson, Emeritus Scientist at the Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research, has decades of experience in waterfowl research and management across North America.

Dr. Gary Ivey, Trumpeter Swan Society lead for the Oregon Restoration Project since the early 1990s and has worked on swan issues for 45 years. TTSS Past President.

Jim Hawkings, worked for 29 years as a biologist for the Canadian Wildlife Service. He spearheaded that region’s participation in the North American Trumpeter Swan Survey beginning in 1995, and has also taken a special interest in swan migration areas in the southern Yukon.
