This Memorial Day weekend, White County EMS joins our community and nation in remembering and honoring the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸

As families gather this weekend for cookouts, lake days, travel, and celebrations, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day and honor those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

While enjoying the holiday weekend, please help us keep White County safe by following these important safety reminders:

🚑 Never drink and drive — designate a sober driver
🚑 Wear your seatbelt every trip, every time
🚑 Slow down and stay alert during increased holiday traffic
🚑 Stay hydrated and take breaks in the heat
🚑 Watch children closely around pools, lakes, and rivers
🚑 Always wear life jackets while boating or tubing
🚑 Use caution with grills, campfires, and fireworks

EMS Week is more than a celebration of a profession — it’s a celebration of people. The people who answer the call no matter the hour. The people who miss holidays, birthdays, sleep, and time with their own families so they can be there for someone else’s worst day.
Over the years, these photos tell a story much bigger than ambulances and uniforms. They tell the story of sacrifice, compassion, teamwork, and resilience. They show countless moments of service — from lifesaving calls to community events, from training new generations to standing beside one another through the hardest days.
EMS is not just a career. It becomes part of who you are.
Behind every siren is a crew willing to walk into chaos with calm, into heartbreak with compassion, and into uncertainty with courage. Every member of our service — past and present — has helped shape the legacy we are proud to continue today.
This week, we honor every EMT and paramedic, who has dedicated themselves to serving others. Thank you for the long hours, the missed meals, the difficult calls, the laughter at 3 AM, and the unwavering commitment to your community.
To those who came before us, thank you for building the foundation.�To those serving now, thank you for carrying the mission forward.�And to the families who support us through it all — thank you for sharing your loved ones with this profession.

Our crew had a great time visiting Tesnatee Gap Elementary School for Career Day today! 🚑

Students were able to explore the ambulance, learn about different EMS equipment like the LUCAS device and cardiac monitor, and ask questions about what it’s like to work in emergency medical services.

We love opportunities like this to connect with our community and share what we do with the next generation. A big thank you to Tesnatee Gap Elementary for having us!

🚑 Mountain Rescue on Raven Cliffs Trail 🚒

Today, our EMS Med 3 crew teamed up with White County Fire and Helen Fire Department to rescue an injured hiker on Raven Cliffs Trail.

Thanks to the quick response and outstanding teamwork between EMS, White County Fire, and Helen Fire Department, we were able to safely locate, treat, and evacuate the patient. These joint operations in rugged mountain terrain really show why strong inter-agency cooperation is so important in our community.

A huge thank you to every responder who helped make this rescue a success — from the initial call all the way to getting the hiker safely off the mountain. Proud of this team! 💪

Our team was honored to be invited to a special First Responder Breakfast at Cleveland First Baptist Church. They went above and beyond to show their appreciation for the work we do every day.
Each of us received a beautiful certificate of appreciation and a meaningful cross pin featuring the American flag — a wonderful reminder of faith, service, and the community we’re proud to serve.

While many of you are enjoying Easter egg hunts, church services, and big family meals, our crews are standing ready 24/7 across White County.

Beautiful day for some hands-on training at White County EMS! ☀️
Today, our newest EMT on Field Training Orientation (FTO) is getting real-world experience with our equipment, and we also have an EMT student on clinical rotation learning the ropes (literally!).
After going through our equipment and different patient assessments, with this perfect weather, Director Bill Scandrett led the group through a thorough Z-Rig setup demonstration—a key 3:1 mechanical advantage system we use for rescue hauls and patient extrications. Great job by everyone staying sharp and building those critical skills!

🚨 Weather Advisory for Cleveland, GA: Preparing for Inclement Conditions This Weekend 🚨

As we brace for potential ice, snow, and cold temperatures this weekend, Our EMS crews urge all residents to prioritize safety and preparedness. Here’s what you need to know to stay protected:

❄️ Safe Heating Practices: If power outages occur, use only approved heating sources such as battery-operated or vented kerosene heaters, wood-burning fireplaces with proper chimneys, or electric space heaters (when power is available) in well-ventilated areas. Never use ovens, grills, generators, or unvented fuel-burning heaters indoors—these can cause deadly carbon monoxide poisoning. Install and test carbon monoxide detectors in your home, and seek fresh air immediately if you experience headaches, dizziness, or nausea.

🩹 Stock Up on Essentials: Ensure your first aid kit is fully supplied with bandages, antiseptics, medications, and any other items your family may need. Don’t forget non-perishable food, water, flashlights, batteries, and blankets in case of power outages.

🩺 For Those Relying on Home Oxygen: If you or a loved one depends on electrically powered oxygen equipment, contact your power company right away to inform them of your medical needs—this can help prioritize restoration efforts. Additionally, verify that you have backup portable oxygen tanks on hand and know how to use them safely.

🚑 EMS Response Considerations: Please be aware that icy roads and severe weather conditions may significantly impact both our response times and, in some cases, our ability to respond at all. We strongly encourage everyone to remain indoors and avoid travel on hazardous roads whenever possible. For true emergencies, always call 911—we will do everything we can to reach you safely and quickly. Your preparedness and caution help keep our community safe.
