Microsoft is retiring its built-in SMS and voice multi-factor authentication (MFA) for Microsoft Entra ID in favor of more secure, phishing-resistant authentication methods like passkeys.
Key Dates
• September 1, 2026: Users who currently use SMS or voice MFA will automatically be prompted to register a passkey after completing MFA.
• February 1, 2027: Microsoft-provided SMS and voice authentication will no longer be available.
• After February 1, 2027: Users who only have SMS or voice configured will be blocked from signing in until they register a passkey. This requirement cannot be disabled.
Who is affected?
Only organizations with users currently using Microsoft-provided SMS or voice authentication. Organizations already using other authentication methods or customer-managed telecom providers are not impacted.
Recommended Actions
1. Identify users still using SMS or voice MFA.
2. Enable passkeys and encourage users to register them before September 1, 2026.
3. Inform users about the upcoming change.
4. If SMS or voice authentication is still required for business or regulatory reasons, evaluate a customer-managed telecom provider before February 1, 2027.
Bottom Line
Microsoft is moving to phishing-resistant authentication as the default to better protect against phishing, SIM-swapping, and other attacks. Organizations should transition affected users to passkeys before February 1, 2027 to avoid sign-in disruptions.

☀️ HEAT ADVISORY FOR WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10 ☀️

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Northwest Ohio from Noon to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10.

🌡️ Temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s, with heat index values feeling as hot as 100°F.

High heat and humidity can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for older adults, young children, and those with health conditions.
Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink water. Dehydration can happen quickly in hot weather.

Stay safe by:
💧 Drinking plenty of water
🏠 Staying in air-conditioned spaces when possible
👒 Wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
⏰ Limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day
📞 Checking in on family, friends, and neighbors
