Following several months of coordination with the City of Cleveland, we are proud to announce that the parking challenges on the square have been resolved. Effective today, April 1, 2026, the City will begin enforcing a strict 15-minute parking limit on the square.
While some concerns are valid, we understand residents may have questions, including but not limited to:
• “Is 15 minutes enough time?”
• “Will someone be actively timing this?”
• “How aggressively is ‘strictly enforced’ being interpreted?”
• “If I sit in my car with the engine running, am I technically parked?”
• “Will there be grace periods, warnings, or just immediate fines?”
Do not worry, we have worked closely with the City to implement thoughtful solutions to these concerns:
1. License plate recognition cameras have been installed to ensure fair and consistent enforcement. Any vehicle exceeding the allotted time will be billed at a rate of $1 per minute over the limit. (For some of you this is pocket change and a way to pay for flowers on the square.)
2. For guests dining at sit-down establishments, a driver rotation system is encouraged. One member of each party may continuously circle the square while others dine. NASCAR fans may consider this an opportunity for skill development.
3. In partnership with Griffin Towing, any vehicle exceeding one hour will be promptly removed and transported to the top of Yonah Mountain. As part of the City’s 250th Celebration, these vehicles will be ceremonially launched from the mountain later this summer. (You may have seen video of a similar annual event they do in Alaska.)
We appreciate your cooperation as we implement this highly reasonable and not at all stressful improvement to downtown parking.
