It looks like we’re expecting! We’ll call her “Engine 8”. Production is wrapping up on our 2026 Pierce pumper before the final inspection in a couple weeks. Then she’ll head to Virginia for the final touches! We hope to have it in service by end of June, first of July. Big thanks go to the committee who helped bring this to fruition, Alleghany County for the funds as well as our community for all of their assistance for us to be able to do this. More pictures to come!

Very first thing this morning, the bells rang at 0002 for Co. 8, Rescue 1 and ACPS for an overturned tractor trailer with entrapment on I-64. Squad 86 and E-84 checked out at 0008 and requested Co. 2 be added per dispatch protocols. While enroute, units were advised the truck was now on fire and the driver had been extricated. Units arrived at the 36.4 mm and found the overturned truck hauling saw dust, with the road tractor fully involved. Crews extinguished the fire and the scene was later turned over to VSP and the clean up contractor.

After nearly 28 years of service, Engine 82 left today headed to its new home with the Cagle Volunteer Fire Department in Dunlap, TN. This was to make room for its replacement, Engine 8, a 2026 Pierce Saber 5 person engine. Engine 8 is currently in production and is expected to be delivered in May of this year. Thank you to the members who helped ready 82 to leave and to Cagle FD for giving it a new home for many more years of service!
