For the final time, Ms. Bohrer led the first graders at Midlakes Elementary through the annual Memorial Day program at the High School Auditorium.

Recognizing local veterans, members of the military who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, and the importance of the Memorial Day holiday, the students delivered poems and songs. Midlakes sophomore Brian Cannan joined the first graders in a rendition of Lee Greenwood's 'God Bless the USA.' 🎤🎙

Principal Chris Moyer welcomed members of the Seeley B. Parish Post 457 American Legion, the Sons of the American Legion, the Auxiliary, and other veterans during the event. He also recognized Ms. Bohrer, who will be retiring after nearly 30 years as primary music teacher.

Several student-athletes in Midlakes' Class of 2026 have committed to play sports at the collegiate level. 🎓📝

Volleyball standout and former Wrestling State qualifier Clara Bond will be playing volleyball at State University of New York at Canton. Bond will study pre-law, and chose to join the 'Roos for several reasons, including the coaching staff, the dorms, the environment and the team. She said she is looking forward to getting bigger and working with the new team. She cited the Volleyball Section V Championship as a favorite memory; the team won in 2023. Her advice to her teammates is to "work hard, and separate your emotions from your dedication. 🦘

Three-year thrower and soccer player Ciera Carnright will continue her field career while studying nursing at the State University of New York at Alfred. She plans to throw for the Pioneers indoor and outdoor track and field teams. She said she felt comfortable at the campus, and the welcoming atmosphere helped her select Alfred. Joining the Pioneers, she looks forward to making new friends after trading in the Screaming Eagles for the blue ox, named Big Blue. Ciera fondly remembers the bus rides to games and meets with teammates, and tells young athletes to "always give it your all, no matter what." 🐃

Corinne Hughes will study physical therapy. She will continue to cheer while attending Daemen University. She said the location of the institute and the learning opportunities helped her decision. The two-year flyer looks forward to making new friends and the new opportunities at Daemen. She said her favorite memories include the annual Homecoming games, and stunting with her friends. The future wildcat says her advice to young cheer athletes is, "always try your best and be open to new opportunities." 🐱

Six-year soccer winger and track athlete Fernando Resendiz will continue to play soccer with Keuka College where he will study business management. Fern's choice to join the Wolves was made easier by the inviting coaching staff, the environment and the academic programs at Keuka. He is excited to play at the next level and meet new people. He said he remembers winning his first game with his cousins; the win ended a five-year drought for the Midlakes Boys Varsity program. He advises up-and-coming athletes to "trust God, work hard," and to remember "a lot can change in one year." 🐺

Maya Stevenson, the salutatorian of her graduating class, will continue in competitive dance at Nazareth University while studying physical therapy. Stevenson has 13 years experience in dance, and the Golden Flyers' dance team and PT program helped in her selecting the school. She is looking forward to performing at the Nazareth basketball games, and meeting her new teammates. Her favorite memory from her time high school career is winning a massive trophy and a $500 check at a dance competition. Her advice to a young dance student is, "don't let the bad days define you." 🦅

Congratulations, and good luck! 📝🏐⚽🖊💃📣
