Cleng Peerson Farm

Cleng Peerson Farm The CP Farm is the place where Cleng Peerson, the father of the Norwegian emigration to America lived his final years.

This page will give updates for what is happening at the CP Farm in Texas. The property is owned by a Norwegian family living in Tysvær, the same area as Cleng Peerson was born and grew up. CP Farm have a double meaning; both Cleng Peerson Farm, and Colwick Peerson Farm. Cleng Peerson was given the property from the State of Texas in 1856, but then he had lived here for a couple of years. In 1859

he gave half his property to Ove Colwick (Kjølvig), another Norwegian emigrant from Jelsa in Rogaland. In return his family should take care of Cleng Peerson the rest of his life. They built a rock house at the property, where Cleng lived together with the Colwicks the rest of his life. CP Farm is listed as a National Historic Property in USA.

Also this time our stay at CP Farm came to an end much too soon. We had a great stay, and as always we made some progress on different tasks, met a lot of friends, and managed to take some photos. This time i finally managed to capture the "Painted Bunting". We had all kinds of weather this time, and I got a couple of nice pictures of the lightning as well (I suggest to watch them in full screen). The most exciting this time was of course the awarded THC plaque, and next time we will try to install it. Thank you all, and we look forward to our next visit.

We still have some of the 17. mai ribbon/sløyfe that was made for the 200 year’s anniversary. These are beautiful, and a great memory from the Crossings.
We will soon return to Norway, and if anyone wants to buy one, please send me a pm ASAP. We can bring some home to Norway if you want it there. We can also bring with us some of the Christmas ornament with our cabin on.

Yesterday we had a special day here at CP Farm. We felt really honored to be awarded a Historic Texas Lands plaque from Texas Historical Commission. Thank you very much, Rebecca Shelton at THC.
This is awarded to landowners in Texas who have done something special to preserve the Texas history. Only 40 landowners have got this plaque over 25 years, even if there has been registered more than 90000 archeologival sites, so this is not very common. We are very grateful, and we appreciate everything that the two archaeologist Bryan Jameson and Art Tawater have achieved during excavatuons at our property.

I assume the Winther Olympics is not on top of the agenda in Texas, but for everyone with Norwegian roots it might be good to know the fantastic results achieved. Not only was Norway the most winning nation, we also set new records in number of gold medals an the total number of medals.

For those who are able to watch…..

De unge hadde aldri sett kokte poteter før, og ble hekta på brun saus. Amerikanere med og uten heilnorske aner jublet, da kokker fra Haugalandet kom over i desember med norsk, tradisjonell julemat.

I am happy that people enjoyed the different events in Clifton, and the nice words from the Mayor. It was a true pleasure to be a part of this years celebrations.

We wish all our friends a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
