🚨 PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ADVISORY IN EFFECT 🚨

Due to ongoing repairs on a 42-inch water main connected to a 51-inch transmission main on Chittenden Road in Clifton, Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for approximately 5,000 customers in Clifton and 200 customers in Passaic.

The advisory is effective immediately and will remain in place until water quality testing confirms the water is safe to drink.

📍 Customers within the affected area shown on the map should follow the advisory until further notice.

What You Need to Do

Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for:
✔ Drinking
✔ Cooking and food preparation
✔ Making ice
✔ Brushing teeth
✔ Washing dishes
✔ Preparing infant formula
✔ Washing fruits and vegetables

💧 Bottled water may also be used for these purposes until the advisory is lifted.

Why Is This Advisory Being Issued?

As repairs continue, pressure fluctuations in the water system may occur. While there is no evidence of contamination, changes in water pressure can increase the risk of contaminants entering the distribution system. As a precaution, customers in the affected area are advised to boil water until testing confirms water quality meets all state and federal standards.

What PVWC Is Doing

Our crews are working around the clock to complete repairs and restore normal system operations. Once repairs are complete and pressure is fully restored, comprehensive water quality testing will be conducted throughout the affected area.

The advisory will remain in effect until:
✅ Water system pressure is fully restored
✅ Laboratory testing confirms the water is safe to consume

Customers will be notified immediately when the advisory is lifted.

Another first for the Clifton Health Department! On Friday, 5/29, the Health Department proudly unveiled Louie the Lead Dog, a children’s book created by the Department’s Lead Division designed to teach children about lead poisoning prevention. A special reading of the book took place at School #14.

A heartfelt thank you to School #14 for hosting us and to everyone who helped bring this project to life! Seeing the excitement and smiles on the students’ faces made the day truly unforgettable. We look forward to introducing Louie and teaching even more students about lead prevention as we visit more schools this year!

When stress hits, there are several ways to manage the storm of emotional and physical feelings that arise. One remedy for stress that has endured since early civilization is music.
Research has shown that listening to music may have an effect on anxiety, blood pressure, and stress hormones. Certain kinds of music may reduce those symptoms, namely soft, classical music.

The Health Benefits of Berries

🍓Strawberries are an excellent source of vitamin C, providing more than 100% of your daily vitamin C needs in just one cup.
🫐Blueberries are often considered a superfood thanks to their high levels of anthocyanins, the compounds that give them their deep blue color.
🍓Raspberries are one of the highest-fiber fruits you can eat, with about 8 grams of fiber per cup.
🫐Blackberries are packed with fiber. They also provide vitamin K, which supports bone health and normal blood clotting, along with vitamin C and other beneficial plant compounds.

For older adults, gardening provides a meaningful source of daily physical activity, so much so that the American Heart Association categorizes it as a good source of moderate exercise. Squatting, bending, pulling, watering, weeding, digging, and mowing can help keep the muscles and joints active and engaged, while helping improve strength, flexibility, and coordination. A study from the University of Arkansas found that the low-impact movements associated with gardening helped women aged 50 and older improve their bone density and reduce their risk of osteoporosis.
