Back at it again!

Last year, I launched and hosted an inaugural back-to-school haircut event to help students start the school year feeling confident and prepared.

This year, I’m proud to continue that work in collaboration with JRoz Cutz & Salon, which will provide FREE haircuts for students in the Clinton Public School District and Jackson Public Schools.

This second year represents the kind of community partnership I believe in: local businesses, public servants, and families working together to support our young people.

Economic development and community protection are not mutually exclusive.

The real question is how to strike the right balance.

Amid near-constant discussions at Jackson City Council meetings about data centers, including citizen-led protests, a group of experts and local officials came together to present a different side of the debate.

Under a tent in the parking lot of the old Delphi Packard Electric plant in the Clinton Industrial Park, City and Hinds County leaders joined their data center partners June 9 in speaking glowingly about the $1 billion Amazon Web Services facility that’s being built there, calling it transformational. Then, they walked out into the sunshine to cut a ribbon, an event serving as the local kickoff for a project AWS officially announced in Ridgeland exactly two months earlier.
