The weather has been great this weekend for both of the standbys we were out at. Friday night we were out at the Blue Ridge High School Football Game and at the Farmer City Raceway as the races are wrapping up for the season.

Then Saturday night we were out at the Light it Up run with the Clinton Maroons XC team. With over 750 runners it was a fantastic evening and has been great to see them continue to grow the event. Thank you to all of the agencies that were also there to show their support and light it up for the event. We have an amazing county and are grateful to get to serve the county!

Our Farmer City crews are relocating the Farmer City Fire station tonight due to rising waters around our station. If you are out tonight please pay attention to roads as the water continues to rise. Thank you to Farmer City Fire Department for opening your doors to us tonight.

We are beyond grateful to have an amazing team. Yesterday as our neighbors to the north got hit by a storm causing extensive damage our team came together to help out. Yesterday evening we ended up staffing 2 additional ambulances to help, staffing a total of 7 ambulance for the evening.

While maintaining our ALS coverage across the county we had one ALS and 3 BLS units up in McLean County helping OSF St. Joseph Medical Center and Carle BroMenn Medical Center. We are glad things are slowly returns if to normal for them today, however were glad that we were able to be there to help in a time of need. Our teams, all the hospital staff and all the other emergency workers in Bloomington/Normal did an outstanding job yesterday in the storms wake. It was a true testament of everyone coming together to help out.

Yesterday evening was a great reminder of the dedication and commitment of our team.

While some of our crew were on the field training alongside the Clinton Maroons football team, another group was celebrating an incredible milestone—graduating from Paramedic School.

Congratulations to all 4 of you on making it through a tough year! Your hard work, countless hours of studying, and unwavering dedication have led to this significant achievement. We are proud of your commitment to advancing your skills and providing the highest level of care to the communities we serve.

Please join us in congratulating these outstanding individuals on this well-earned accomplishment. We look forward to seeing the positive impact they will continue to make throughout their EMS careers!

Last night we had the opportunity to do some valuable training with the Clinton Maroons Football Trainer and coaching staff. Doing some hands on training on how to properly remove football equipment. Thank you all for the training opportunity!!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Gus and his family along with the members of the Bloomington Fire Department as they deal with this difficult time. Gus know your dad was an amazing guy that always had a smile on his face and was so incredibly proud of you!!

Bloomington Fire Department Mourns the Loss of a Dedicated Member

With profound sadness, the Bloomington Fire Department announces the sudden off-duty passing of Captain James Schreiber on Monday, June 15, 2026. Captain Schreiber was a pillar of our department and an invaluable member of our fire service family. His loss is deeply felt by every member of the Bloomington Fire Department and the community he served with distinction.

Career & Service
Captain Schreiber began his distinguished career with the Bloomington Fire Department on March 10, 1997. He was promoted to Engineer on November 1, 2008, and to Captain on June 14, 2019 — a role in which he led his crew with wisdom, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to public safety for over 29 years of service.

Funeral Arrangements
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Carmody Flynn Funeral Home in Bloomington, IL. Visitation is Friday, June 19, 2026, from 4 pm to 7 pm. Funeral service is Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10 am. The department asks the community to keep Captain Schreiber’s family in their thoughts and prayers.
Captain James Schreiber’s presence will be sorely missed. He was a valued member of this department and a true public servant. May he rest in eternal peace.
