Severe storms and long power outages can create real challenges for families—especially when food bought with SNAP, State Food, or Summer EBT benefits is lost.

The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) may be able to replace food when it is destroyed due to a disaster or a power outage lasting 4 hours or more.
If this happens to you, you may be eligible for replacement benefits as long as the loss is reported within the required timeframe and verified.

Good morning , everyone!
Hopefully everyone escaped any serious damage in the past week’s storms. Lots of good rain water for the gardens, now we just need a little more heat to make things really flourish. Snow peas are basically done as they have a short season but green beans are starting to produce a bit. Tomato plants are growing well along with cucumbers and peppers. I plan to dig out the garlic in Clinton next week. I did dump one potato bag and was disappointed to find it only yielded a dozen small Yukon Gold tubers. Hopefully the others will do better! New carrot plantings and zinnias are doing well. Thank you to Marah, Tabitha and Michael for all of your help in the Monticello gardens this year! It is rewarding to have all of the help in both Clinton and Monticello and hopefully we will soon have an abundance of fresh produce and flowers for our clients in both places.

In observance of Juneteenth, the DeWitt-Piatt Bi-County Health Department will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026.
