On March 5 we held our annual Open House in the office to recognize our Cooperator of the Year, Scholarship winner and show off the local poster winners. We had a breakfast catered by Holly's Kitchen located in Clinton down at the gold course.

This year's Cooperator of the Year were Brad and Tammy Nadler. They started working with our office in 2022 to improve their grazing operation. We have helped them install 5,085 feet of pipeline and 4 freeze proof waterers on the Mt. Zion farm and around 5,400 feet of pipeline and 6 freezeproof waterers on the farm where they live, and a well on another farm. We are currently working with them on fencing and doing more pipeline and waterers.

This year's scholarship winner was Gavin Howerton. Gavin attends Clinton High School and is planning on attending University of Missouri in Columbia Missouri to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Agribusiness Management.

The Henry County Soil and Water Conservation District provides cost-share of $400 for decommissioning abandoned wells.

STATE COST-SHARE FOR WELL DECOMMISSIONING

By Bobbi Farmer, District Technician, Henry County Soil and Water Conservation District

Do you have an abandoned well on your farm? Old wells can pose a real danger for humans and animals. They can also contaminate the ground water.

The Henry County Soil and Water Conservation District provides cost-share of $400 for decommissioning abandoned wells.

This is a fairly simple process. Someone from our office comes out to measure the diameter and depth of the well. We then calculate the amount of bleach needed to disinfect the water. Then you just push in the top three feet of well and fill the rest with small gravel or lime. Add some soil on top, seed and mulch and the project is complete.

Call the Soil and Water Conservation District at (660) 885-5567, Ext. 3, or stop by our office at 1306 North Second Street, Clinton for more details.
