5-Inch LDH: From Clinton to the Eastern Shore 🚒🤝

Firefighting doesn't stop at the county line. With PGFD transitioning to a 4-inch hose standard, Clinton VFD recently had the opportunity to re-home 1,800 feet of 5-inch Large Diameter Hose (LDH) and adapters to our partners on the Eastern Shore.

This high-quality gear has officially been placed back into front-line service with the Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department and Denton Volunteer Fire Company.

While our operations are moving toward 4-inch, 5-inch remains the heavy-hitter for the rural water-shuttle and tanker operations that the Grasonville and Denton crews coordinate.

Where it’s going:
đźš’ Grasonville VFD: 1,300 feet of LDH to fully outfit a piece of apparatus.
đźš’ Denton VFD: 500 feet and adapters to bolster their tanker supply setups.

It’s great to see this equipment staying in the fight and supporting the teams across the Bay. If you want to see these departments putting it to work, check them out:

A Big Thank You to B.K. Miller Meats & Liquor

On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the Miller family presented the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department with a $15,050 donation to support our volunteers and operations. Blaise Miller presented the check to CVFD meembers gathered in front of our Kenworth Titan Support Pumper.

The history of CVFD's relationship with BK Miller's goes back to 1936, when citizens and business owners met to plan the establishment of a local volunteer fire department. Two years later there were about fourteen members, a fire truck, and a local barn to store the equipment. B.K. Miller was there at the start, and successive sons and family members have remained consistent in their support for nearly ninety years of the department’s existence.

We are grateful for the Miller family’s continued support of the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department and the community we serve.

Help Us Keep Hydrants Accessible. We are asking residents to help keep our community safe by ensuring local fire hydrants remain visible and accessible during the winter months. In the event of a fire, our teams need to locate and hook up to water sources instantly. Snow and ice buildup can significantly delay these life-saving efforts. Thank You!

To help us, please follow these three simple steps:
1. Remove ice and snow from the hydrant.
2. Clear a 3-foot perimeter around the entire hydrant.
3. Clear a path from the hydrant directly to the street.

Shoveling snow is essentially a high-intensity workout performed inside a walk-in freezer. Cold air causes your arteries to narrow while heavy lifting causes a sudden spike in your heart rate, so please stay safe out there—take it easy, go slow, and take frequent breaks.

Stay warm, but give that heater some breathing room. 🔥🧯
Space heater safety tip: Keep at least 3 feet (about an arm’s length) between your space heater and anything that can burn like curtains, blankets, furniture, clothes, and pet beds. Place it on a solid, level surface, and turn it off when you leave the room or go to sleep. A little space now can prevent a big fire later.

The Clinton Volunteer Fire Department is proud to support the annual PGCVFRA Bicycle Challenge 2025, This countywide volunteer firefighter effort has grown into the largest single bicycle donation to the Prince George’s County Toys for Tots program, helping make sure local children receive new bikes and helmets for Christmas.

At our November Board of Directors meeting, the Board of Directors approved the purchase of one girls bicycle and one boys bicycle, each with an age appropriate helmet, as our department’s official contribution to this year’s campaign.

In an outstanding act of generosity, our department secretary, Sally Brown, personally matched the department’s donation by purchasing an additional girls bike, boys bike, and helmets for both. With her support, CVFD is sending a total of four new bicycles and four helmets to the PGCVFRA Bicycle Challenge and Toys for Tots.

We also want to extend a special thank you to Glen Johnson from Brandwine VFD Company 40, who volunteered his time to assemble the bicycles and make sure they were ready for delivery to the round up event.

The bike round up for all participating departments will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the PGCVFRA monthly meeting at Beltsville VFD Co. 31

As you start preparing your holiday schedule and organizing that large family feast, we encourages all residents to follow a few simple safety tips so you can enjoy time with your loved ones and keep yourself and your family safer from fire. “We know cooking fires can be prevented,” said CVFD President Jerry Spense. “Staying in the kitchen while cooking, using a timer, and avoiding distractions such as electronics or TV are steps everyone can take to keep families safe in their homes.”
