Police and fire need heroes too, and they’re the dispatchers.
Behind every siren, radio call, and flashing light is a steady voice, with sharp multitasking skills, and someone who somehow keeps everything moving in the direction needed.
Our public safety telecommunicators are the first to answer the call and the calm connection between our community and help when it’s needed most.
During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we’re proud to celebrate and thank the incredible team at Clinton County Communications who support law enforcement, fire, and EMS every single day.
💛 Thank you for answering the call, on every shift, in every situation, with professionalism and heart.

Tonight, we had the honor of recognizing several members of the Clinton Fire Department and our partners at Clinton County Communications with the American Heart Association Heart Saver Hero Award.

On December 3rd, our crews responded to a medical emergency where a patient became pulseless and stopped breathing shortly after contact. In those critical moments, every second mattered. Thanks to the rapid response, advanced life support, and seamless teamwork of our paramedics and responders, lifesaving care was delivered exactly when it was needed most.

We would like to recognize Paramedics Chandler Sterk, Matt Cain, and Wes Haan for their immediate patient care and lifesaving actions on scene and during transport. Assistant Chief Greg Forari ensured continuous care by safely transporting the team to MercyOne, and Derrin Huizenga provided critical support with the fire apparatus.

We also want to recognize Clinton County Communications for their outstanding coordination and communication, which played a vital role in guiding crews to the patient during a rapidly evolving situation.

Because of their professionalism, skill, and dedication, the patient ultimately had a successful outcome.

March 2026 Recap

Clinton County along with most of Iowa was recently placed under a "Red Flag Warning" by the NWS.

Here are the differences between a "red flag warning" and a countywide "burn ban."

Yes you technically can open burn under a red flag warning but PLEASE don’t!

Thanks to Winneshiek for the graphic.
