Update on Train Derailment Near the Hickman County–Carlisle County Line
HICKMAN COUNTY, KY — At approximately 10:16 p.m. on May 31, Hickman County Emergency Management was notified of a possible train derailment involving a CN Railroad train near Peery Road along the Hickman County–Carlisle County line.
Initial assessments by responding agencies have confirmed that approximately 30 railcars and two locomotives, derailed at the incident site. The train was transporting a mixed freight load consisting of aggregate materials, automotive-related cargo, and various non-hazardous chemical products.
During the initial response, two railcars were identified as potential hazardous materials concerns. Following further assessment by hazardous materials specialists and railroad officials, it has been determined that these railcars do not pose a threat to public safety at this time.
As a result, the shelter-in-place advisory previously issued for residents located near the rail corridor in northern Hickman County has been lifted.
Emergency personnel remain on scene and continue to coordinate with CN Railroad representatives as recovery and remediation operations progress. At this time, no injuries have been reported.
The derailment site is located in a heavily wooded area beyond the end of Peery Road, creating significant access challenges for emergency responders and recovery crews. To ensure public safety and allow uninterrupted response operations, Peery Road remains closed until further notice. Residents and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
In addition, Highway 51 North between KY 288 and KY 80 in Arlington continues to be impacted by response activities. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to utilize alternate routes when possible.
