The Cooperative Extension Service is part of the University of Arkansas' Division of Agriculture. With offices in all 75 counties, our faculty and staff provide educational programs and research-based information to the people of Arkansas. From agricultural programs to family financial management to youth education, we offer educational programs that have immediate and practical applications. The

University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service is very proud to have faculty in every county of the state who live and work with the citizens they serve. Extension educational programs touch all segments of our society: youth, families, community and, yes, farmers. The Extension faculty work hard to meet the needs of the people they serve, leaving nothing undone that might contribute toward success. Our classrooms are found in open fields or on the tailgate of a pickup. You will find us among Arkansas' 33 million acres of crops, livestock and natural resources. You will find us in conference centers and public schools, community centers and courthouses, in the classroom and in the lab.

Ryegrass Control Demonstration

Cooperators: Randy McCaslin and James Reed

Conducted by: VanBuren County CEA Danny Griffin

Conway County CEA Kevin Van Pelt

A demonstration was conducted on the McCaslin Ranch in Van Buren County to look at different treatments for controlling what was suspected to be glyphosate resistant ryegrass. Roundup Pro and Credit 41 were both applied at equivalent rates of 1lb active ingredient of glyphosate per acre. All the treatments provided excellent control of ryegrass confirming that there was no glyphosate resistance. However, each treatment was compared with and without Rezilon and the results substantiated claims that more winter weeds sometimes germinate in early spring.

Headed to a fair or livestock show this season? Make sure your animals meet Arkansas’ exhibition health requirements before you go!

Many species need current CVIs, some require negative tests within 30–90 days, and animals showing signs of contagious disease won’t be allowed to exhibit. Requirements also vary by species, including horses, cattle, poultry, sheep and goats, swine, and more. Plan ahead, check the rules early, and help keep Arkansas agriculture healthy.

Full details and permit links are available here: https://agriculture.arkansas.gov/animals/disease-traceability/animal-entry-requirements/
