CONTROLLED BURNS: The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), in partnership with personnel from the Tennessee Division of Forestry (TDF), will conduct controlled burns of woodland and grassland areas on the DOE Oak Ridge Reservation on Tuesday, September 29.

Burns will take place at the Solway Bend and Gallaher Bend fields near the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). These burns will total under 10 acres, are expected to begin after 11 a.m., and conclude by 6 p.m. Each burn is expected to last approximately 30 to 60 minutes.

Most people will never know what our deputies carry.

Not the duty belt.

The weight.

The weight of telling a mother her child isn't coming home.

The weight of holding the hand of someone taking their last breath.

The weight of looking into the eyes of a frightened child who has learned far too early that the world isn't always kind.

The weight of seeing tragedy... then driving to the very next call as if nothing happened.

Every shift, the deputies of the Anderson County Sheriff's Office leave their families with no promise of what they'll face or whether they'll make it home the same way they left. They answer the calls no one else wants to answer, walk into places everyone else is running from, and carry burdens they'll never talk about.

Most of those moments will never be posted on Facebook. They won't make the evening news. There are no cameras when a deputy buys a family groceries, spends an hour talking someone out of su***de, comforts a scared child, or sits with an elderly person who simply doesn't want to be alone.

Those moments don't go viral.

The criticism does.

It's easy to judge a few seconds from a phone screen. It's much harder to make life-changing decisions in seconds with incomplete information, knowing the outcome will be analyzed by people who were never there. If you truly believe you can do better, we encourage you to attend the police academy and answer the same call.

This post isn't asking for sympathy.

It's asking for perspective.

Behind every badge is a husband, a wife, a mom, a dad, a son, or a daughter who chose a profession built on sacrifice. They don't expect applause. They simply show up day after day for people they've never met.

To every deputy serving the Anderson County Sheriff's Office...

Thank you for carrying what most people never see.

Your community is safer because of you.

And even when the loudest voices only point out what went wrong, never forget that there are thousands of people who sleep a little easier every night because you answered the call.

We see you. We appreciate you. And we are proud to serve Anderson County together. 💙
