Project Surge

Project Surge Project Surge exists to build relationships and equip people to make long lasting changes in their communities.

Project Surge is a Non-Profit serving the residents of Van Buren County. We were created with the vision of creating intentional relationships with people and offering them hope. In our county we were actively involved in providing assistance to those who are in low income situations and were able to provide temporary relief to help them in their time of crisis. As years progressed we realized it

was time to do more. It is our vision to provide a place where people who are suffering from our counties housing crises could come and receive the assistance they need so that they can move in to a more long term living situation. It is our goal that as we meet our neighbors we are able to help them with budget counseling, recovery from addictions, job training and placement, and partner with other active non-profits in our area to provide them with the resources they and equip them to make the long lasting changes they desire.

Project Surge has an immediate need. We have assisted VBC Sherrifs office and conferred with DHS on an issue. Many people have asked how they can help; now is a time to help. Due to the nature of the circumstance, I can only suggest monetary donations and we are needing approximately $80. Please call or text me @ 501-592-1380

Some time has passed since our last post. Project Surge still exist! We are much more than a homeless agency. However, housing and housing assistance is what we do. We have moved our organization into EMERGENCY housing only. We have had numerous requests in the past couple of weeks. We are a privately funded organization. We no longer have the funds to allow people to have a place to live for free for long periods of time. We are able to provide options for housing if long term is a necessity. Van Buren County continues to have a need to assist the homeless and we are doing our best to meet those needs.

I would like to share a little information about Project Surge. In September of 2014, Project Surge became the Callaborative Agent for an 18 County Homeless coalition know as Delta Hills Continuum of Care. We have served as the President of the Continuum for the past 28 months. Many people are not aware that continuums exist for homeless assistance. Delta Hills Continuum of Care covers 18 counties in Arkansas. Serving the homeless in rural Arkansas poses many challenges. Project Surge exists to help find solutions for those who are homeless in Van Buren County. We will continue to offer emergency shelter and offer options for those who are in need. Thank You for your support. If anyone would like more information about our services, please text 501-592-1380.

Project Surge has always had a heart for those who found misfortune fall upon them. Misfortune comes in many forms. We see limited income, no income, homeless, and domestic violence to name a few. I have come to learn that many people in our county refuse to accept we have homeless in Van Buren County. I have also learned that since domestic violence is a horrible reality that most attempt to ignore because it's not a pretty aspect of any community. Project Surge and The Dove House contend with homeless and domestic violence clients every week of the year. Our scope is far greater than sheltering those in need. We have to feed people, offer them transportation, sometimes clothing, and some even have medical expenses. The monetary needs are great. Even though getting involved or giving to homeless and domestic programs doesn't leave a person feeling all warm and fuzzy like giving to the humane society, our needs are still great. This month alone we have sheltered 5.

The HEAT is on! We have had more requests for shelter in the past two weeks than we have had in 3 months.

Project Surge Mission: Connecting People with Community Resources. Our goal is to help people in our county find resources that match their needs. We are primarily a homeless outreach organization. Our focus is to help with the housing needs of Van Buren County residents facing who are facing homelessness. In fact, we are the lead homeless agency for an 18 county continuum that strives to meet homeless needs and assist other homeless agencies in Arkansas. We have been able to connect people to other mainstream resources to meet various needs. Project Surge does not assist with utility cost. Therefore, we connect residents with agencies who do assist with those needs. Our services also consist of free firewood, labor free wheelchair ramps, and transportation to food banks, bus stations, and other services. When space is available we house short-term homeless clients. Our policy is to offer our tangible resources once a year and our resource services as needed.
