๐Ÿงธ๐Ÿ“š Kindergarten Visit: Teddy Roosevelt & Teddy Bears! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Last week, I had a wonderful time visiting the Kindergarten classes!

We learned about Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt and the story behind how the teddy bear got its name. After reading together, the students got creative and made their own teddy bear ears to wear.

It was a fun way to combine history, stories, and hands-on learning. Thank you to the Kindergarten classes for being such great listeners and enthusiastic participants!

We always enjoy our visits and look forward to the next adventure together! ๐Ÿปโœจ

๐Ÿ“š 1st Grade Field Trip to the Library! ๐ŸŽฉ

We had a wonderful time welcoming the 1st grade classes to the library yesterday!

Together, we learned about John Quincy Adamsโ€™ childhood during the American Revolution, exploring what life was like growing up during such an important time in American history.

After the story, students got creative and made their own tri corner hats to take home! ๐ŸŽฉ

Thank you to the 1st grade classes for such a fun visit. We always love bringing history and stories to life together!

The students have been reading Treasure Island, so we read a story about Jean Lafitte, a real-life pirate who helped the Americans defend New Orleans from the British during the War of 1812. Afterward, we compared Jean Lafitte with Long John Silver from Treasure Island and talked about how both figures are complicated characters who do not fit neatly into โ€œgood guyโ€ or โ€œbad guyโ€ categories.

The 4th graders had thoughtful things to say about courage, loyalty, selfishness, and the choices people make. It was a great way to connect history, literature, and big questions about character.

Thank you to the 4th grade teachers for having me!

Recently we had a wonderful visit with the 2nd graders! We read about a young girl and her fatherโ€™s journey on the Underground Railroad and learned about the quilt signs her mother taught her to recognize along the way to help guide them to freedom.

After our story, the students made a craft featuring some of the quilt signs we talked about. It was a meaningful way to connect history, storytelling, and creativity while learning about courage, hope, and the ways people helped one another on the journey to freedom.

Thank you to the 2nd grade for a great visit!

๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ“– Baking Club: A Taste of Local History!

This month, our Baking Club tried something a little different. We explored cookbooks created by members of our local community, many of which have been donated to the library over the years!

Participants chose recipes from these unique cookbooks and brought their creations to share and taste together at the library. It was a wonderful way to connect not just through food, but through the history and stories of people from our area.

From cherished family recipes to community favorites, it was a delicious reminder that food can bring people together across generations.

Thank you to everyone who participated. We loved sharing this experience with you!

At this week's Tales in the Library, we shared stories from around the world!

We told the Haitian folktale The Magic Orange Tree, followed Kanchil the mouse deer in the Indonesian trickster tale The Sacred Banana Leaf, and enjoyed an Anansi story, The Magic Hat Dance.

Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us! Check our updated website calendar to see upcoming Tales in the Library for May:

๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ“š Kindergarten Field Trip to the Library! ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿฆ

We had a wonderful time welcoming our Kindergarten classes to the library this month!

We started by reading a story about a girl in India who found a creative way to care for the Earth. Then we got hands-on and made our own binoculars, reminding us to slow down and be mindful of the world around us. We used them during another story to help a child search for a hidden birdโ€™s nest. The students loved being part of the adventure!

We also sang songs and enjoyed time together exploring stories, creativity, and caring of the world. ๐ŸŒฑ

Thank you to our Kindergarten classes for such a fun visit. We loved having you at the library! ๐Ÿ˜Š
