On Saturday, May 16, 2026 we celebrated the last day for one of Clinton's very finest, Officer Albert Bedard. Al's family gave him his last radio call during his last patrol shift with the Clinton Police Department.

Al will now head into retirement after 29 years of dedicated service to our community. He will be missed by all. Al had a presence that will not be replaced, well-liked, friendly, caring and admired by his peers. He cares about the officers he worked with and the community he served, where he grew up.

Among the many roles that Officer Bedard has performed over the years, most will remember him as the Department's Fi****ms Instructor and Fi****ms Licensing Officer. He had a passion for the roles, and always worked hard, sharing his knowledge and experience, and always ensuring the safety of the officers and the community.

Good luck in your long, happy and healthy retirement Officer Bedard. We are all better having known and worked with you.

During National Police Week, and on National Police Officers Memorial Day, May 15th, the Clinton Police Department honors the courage, sacrifice and dedication of law enforcement officers across our great nation.

National Police Officers Memorial Day is observed on May 15 each year to honor law enforcement officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.

The day of remembrance, also known as Peace Officers Memorial Day, pays tribute to local, state, and federal law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice or been injured while serving the public. The day is part of National Police Week, which encompasses the calendar week in which May 15 falls, celebrating the dedication and courage of officers while supporting their families. Flags on government buildings are flown at half-staff in honor of fallen officers.

The observance was established after Congress authorized the President to designate May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day on October 1, 1961. President John F. Kennedy signed the proclamation into law in 1962, recognizing the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers. In 1994, Public Law 103-322 further directed that the U.S. flag be flown at half-staff on this day.
