☀️🔥⛈️ Spring & Summer Safety Reminder – West Central Indiana ⛈️🔥☀️

As we head into warmer months, our area often sees an increase in both fire risks and severe weather, including strong winds, heavy rain, and even tornadoes. A little preparation goes a long way in keeping you and your family safe.

🔥 Fire Safety Tips:
• Always check burn bans and avoid burning on windy or dry days
• Keep fire pits at least 10–15 feet from structures
• Never leave fires unattended
• Properly dispose of smoking materials—never toss them in dry grass
• Clear dry leaves and debris from around your home

⛈️ Storm Safety Tips:
• Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts
• Know your safe place (basement or interior room)
• Secure outdoor furniture, grills, and loose items
• Prepare an emergency kit (water, flashlight, first aid, etc.)
• Avoid downed power lines and report them immediately
• Never drive through floodwaters—Turn Around, Don’t Drown

👨‍🚒 Stay alert. Stay prepared. Stay safe.
Let’s work together to protect our community this season.

⚠️ Turn Around, Don’t Drown ⚠️

Central Indiana has received a large amount of rain and water levels are rising quickly on many roadways. With more rain still falling, conditions can change rapidly.

🚫 Do NOT attempt to drive through flooded roads.
It only takes a few inches of moving water to sweep a vehicle away, and you cannot always see if the road underneath has been washed out.

If you encounter water covering the roadway:
➡️ Turn around and find an alternate route.
➡️ Slow down and use caution in low-lying areas.
➡️ Never drive around barricades.

Your destination is not worth risking your life or the lives of first responders.

Please stay alert, use caution while traveling, and help keep everyone in our community safe.

With the recent stretch of dry weather, dead grass, leaves, and brush are extremely dry and can ignite quickly. Even a small, controlled burn can spread faster than expected due to dry vegetation and shifting winds.

We urge all residents to use extreme caution when burning brush:

• Check local burn regulations and obtain any required permits
• Avoid burning on windy days
• Keep a water source and tools nearby
• Never leave a fire unattended
• Make sure your fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area

What may start as a small debris burn can quickly turn into a large grass or field fire, putting homes, property, and lives at risk.

If you see a fire that appears out of control, call 911 immediately.
