This summer our firefighters will be focusing on painting and maintaining more than 600 fire hydrants throughout our city.
This project serves two important purposes: helping keep our community looking its best while also ensuring firefighters can quickly identify hydrants during emergency operations.
Do you know why the hydrants are different colors? The top colors help indicate the hydrant’s flow capacity:
🔴 Red – Less than 500 gallons per minute (GPM)
🟠 Orange – 500 to 999 GPM
🟢 Green – 1,000 to 1,499 GPM
🔵 Blue – 1,500 GPM or greater
As we work through neighborhoods this summer, you may see our crews cleaning, painting, and inspecting hydrants. We appreciate your patience and support as we continue to improve our city’s hydrants and do our part to keep Clinton safe and looking great.
