Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. I am deeply grateful for their service.

Let’s take a moment to remember their legacy and support our veterans and families. Wishing our community a meaningful Memorial Day.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to offer the invocation at a recent Clinton City Council meeting.

The invocation is intended to provide a moment of reflection, encourage civility, and recognize the council’s importance in serving our community. I appreciate the council’s commitment to honoring the diverse beliefs and perspectives of Clinton residents and ensuring participation remains voluntary and inclusive for all.

I’m looking for help identifying individuals from a variety of faith and non-faith backgrounds who would be interested in offering an invocation at upcoming Clinton City Council meetings. If you or someone you know would be interested in participating, I would greatly appreciate a connection or recommendation.

Get ready for a Public Hearing about the annexation out West.

Many thanks to Rep. Blake Moore for going to bat for Clinton! The congressman got us a $2.75 million federal grant to help install sewer infrastructure in the area that is seeking annexation into Clinton. His support made a huge difference for us.

⭐️ PUBLIC HEARING: Tuesday, May 26, 7 pm at City Hall

Learn about the annexation and give input. The City Council won't vote on it that night, so they have time to consider everyone's feedback.

This is the same annexation we have been talking about for several years. The land is currently unincorporated Davis County. The County cannot service it and no longer wants it to remain unincorporated. West Point recently annexed everything west of 4500 West, and the idea has been for Clinton to take the remaining pocket you see on the map.

Much of the land contains existing homes on large lots, whose owners want services they can only get by being in a city, such as sewer and fiber internet. Some of the land is owned by developers who want to build, such as the 12-acre parcel shown on the map.

🛣️ What is a Transportation Utility Fee?

The traditional gas tax isn't keeping up with the times. As more electric vehicles (like Teslas) and fuel-efficient cars hit the road, gas tax revenue for road maintenance is dropping.

To keep our streets safe, Utah is allowing cities to implement a Transportation Utility Fee (TUF). Just like your water or trash bill, this fee directly funds local road repairs and improvements, ensuring our infrastructure stays reliable regardless of what you drive. 🚗

💬 What are your thoughts?

Should road maintenance be funded by:

1️⃣ A Transportation Utility Fee (similar to water/trash bills, based on property usage)?
2️⃣ A Property Tax increase (added to your annual tax bill)?

Both options have pros and cons. Let me know in the comments which you think is the fairer approach for our community! 👇

PUBLIC HEARING on the tentative budget: May 12 at 7 pm at City Hall.

State law requires cities to adopt an early tentative budget in May. It's not a final decision. We'll keep refining the budget after that. (A budget year is from July to June for cities.)

There will be another public hearing when we adopt the final budget. This hearing in May, however, is your chance to express your viewpoint early in the process. That's when your input is most helpful. Come learn and share.

Today is the day! Come visit city hall for a Budget Open House. This is where we will have the staff explain about how they are handling the budget and, if they need to, show why they are requesting more money.

I'll be there to hear your thoughts about the budget as well.
