WEATHER UPDATE — Schools and offices will remain closed Tuesday, Jan. 27 - Thursday, January 29. Code Yellow: Only emergency personnel should report to work.

The emergency code will be communicated daily.

Use of all facilities is cancelled.

The status for Friday will be determined on Thursday.

The decision to close schools is always made with safety as our top priority. PGCPS is committed to timely communication, and will provide daily updates to staff and families no later than 5 p.m. throughout the weather event.

The school district will implement food services Wednesday, Jan. 28 at five school centers: Drew-Freeman High School, Fairmont Heights High School, Greenbelt High School, Laurel High School and Surrattsville High School. Details will be included in tomorrow's update.

We are extremely proud of one of our own, Mr. Chase Thomas-Kennedy, who was recently recognized as one of the recipients of the 2026 Superintendent’s Exemplar of Excellence Award for Special Education. Mr. Thomas-Kennedy is recognized as one of the members of Team PGCPS for using his leadership for powering progress and driving results. ALERT FOR MONDAY, December 15 — All PGCPS schools and offices will open on a two-hour delay.

Code Orange: Emergency personnel must report to work on time and are not eligible for liberal leave.

There will be no work-study transportation. (Those students should not report to school.)

Vendor managed care programs will open at 9:00 a.m.

There will be no half-day Early Childhood Center (ECC), half-day Special Education Programs, or half-day PreK.

Any other school program requiring transportation prior to 12 noon will NOT have transportation, including Howard B. Owens Science Center, JA Finance Park, and William S. Schmidt Center (Camp Schmidt)

All field trips will be cancelled.

Food Services will offer breakfast.

The PGCPS weather team will reassess conditions at 5:30 a.m. and announce any additional schedule changes by 6:30 a.m.

No rain could dampen our Fall Festival! Today, we were able to Trick or Treat, had storytime with Ms. Shannon, completed a spooky obstacle course with Mr. C, made art at Ms. Emma’s Madeline Pumpkin Patch, and visited our very own Pumpkin Patch inside our school!
