Today, Halls Fire Department is having our annual pump testing performed on our engines. This testing helps ensure our apparatus and pumps are operating properly and are ready to perform when our community needs us.

It is still camping season. Families are packing tents, coolers, and firewood. But here's what kills camping trips and lives: uncontrolled campfires.

A campfire that seems under control can spread in seconds, especially in North Carolina's dry summers.

Before You Camp:

✅ Check for burn bans: Visit the NC Forest Service Wildfire Report. Some areas prohibit campfires entirely during dry conditions.
✅ Clear the area: Remove leaves, branches, and debris at least 10 feet away from your fire pit.
✅ Never leave fires unattended: Not even to run to the bathroom. A watched fire is a safe fire.
✅ Keep water nearby: Have a bucket of water or extinguisher within arm's reach at all times.
✅ Fully extinguish before bed or leaving: Drown your fire. Stir the ashes. Drown it again. Don't leave hot ashes unattended!

One uncontrolled campfire can spread to hundreds of acres. One family's carelessness can threaten an entire community.

The National Fire Academy's "Command and Control for the Company Officer" course gives you practical, real-world skills for leading at the company level. Two days. Covers incident management, preplanning, communications, and safety.

Who Should Apply:
Newly appointed company officers, firefighters with CO responsibilities, and anyone aspiring to that next leadership role.

What You Need:
✔️ Complete ICS-100 and ICS-200 training (online, available through NFA)
✔️ Complete Q0891: Foundations of Leadership and Operations (online, available through NFA)
✔️ Chief's signature confirming prerequisites

This is one of many classes that will be hosted during NFA State Weekend!
