Foster care can look different for every family. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to know exactly what you’re doing. You just have to be willing to take the first step.

💛 WE NEED A FEW GOOD HOMES.

Not perfect homes.
Not families who have it all figured out.
Not people who have been waiting their whole lives to become foster parents.

Just good people who are willing to open their home to a child who needs one.

Right now, Dickenson County has children who need safe, stable, supportive homes. Some are little. Some are teenagers. Some have experienced more than any child should have to.

And sometimes, the biggest thing standing between a child and a family is simply whether someone is willing to say, “I can help.”

You don’t have to know everything.
You don’t have to have biological children.
You don’t have to be married.
You don’t have to be perfect.

You just have to be willing to learn, show up, and make room.

Russell Dickenson Isaiah 117 House Ribbon Cutting

The Dickenson County DSS Resource Foster Family Department recently joined community members and celebrating the ribbon-cutting for the new Isaiah 117 house. A milestone made possible through strong local partnership and shared commitment to children in crisis.
The ribbon-cutting brought together community partners, volunteers, and supporters whose collective efforts brought the vision to life. Their collaboration, reflects a shared belief that every child deserves dignity, gentleness, and reassurance during transition.
As a Regional resource, the Isaiah 117 house will continue to serve as a place of refugee offering hope,healing presence, and compassion care at one of the most critical moments in a child’s journey. On behalf of Dickenson County DSS we would like to thank everyone who made this ribbon-cutting ceremony happen and we are grateful to be part of this.

📊 LET’S TALK ABOUT WHAT FOSTER CARE REALLY LOOKS LIKE IN DICKENSON COUNTY.

When people hear “foster care,” they may picture a little child needing a temporary home. But our local numbers tell a much bigger story. ❤️

We have children in care ranging from infants to young adults, and they all have different needs. But all of them need homes.

One thing that really stands out is that our largest group is teenagers ages 16–18.

These are young people preparing for adulthood, thinking about school, jobs, driving, and their future while also navigating foster care. They need someone willing to show up, encourage them, and be there for them.

You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to have little kids. You don't have to be married. You just have to be willing to learn and be there.

Dickenson County needs foster families for children of ALL ages, especially those open to teenagers.
