Tonight the explorer program along with some senior members got to try out a brand new training prop. The prop consists of a wall/window assembly that will integrate with several different attachments. The attachment of choice this evening was the Denver Drill hallway. Explorers and senior members alike were able to walk through, and begin to get a feel for doing this training scenario. The prop allows firefighters to train on how to overcome a specific situation of how to remove a fully dressed firefighter up and out of a window in a very restricted space. The drill was developed after the LODD of Firefighter Mark Langvardt of Denver Fire department in 1992. Members also were able to practice on VEIS using the the prop tonight! A HUGE thank you goes out to the Ridgeview High School Carpentry program and Explorer Clayton Hickman (pictured on top of the prop) who is a part of the carpentry program, and used specs to build the prop for our department to train with! Also a huge thank you to Captain Dale Pekel who is the original designer of this training tool and who sent us the specifications to create one for ourselves. We can’t wait to see what other things we are able to do with this prop!

This past Tuesday, Clintwood Fire Department Explorers conducted a regular scheduled training meeting. The topic for the night was Technical Rescue-Low Angle Rescue Operations. Explorers learned about proper anchoring for rescue operations and practiced using pickets with webbing to set up a 1-1-1 inline anchor. They then used ropes, pulleys, and prussiks to set up a 3:1 "Z Drag" haul system for a mechanical advantage. They then learned setting up belay and using proper safety commands while hoisting. Using these skills, they were successfully able to rescue all victims by stokes basket throughout each of the evolutions.

Today at our training meeting the post got to put together several skills to create one scenario. Explorers Cook, Moore, and Branham set up the drop tank from tanker 1, successfully filled the tank (after it was put into place by a DPO) then were able to work on learning how to pull water from the tank to the truck while Flowing water. Each explorer took turns going over the process multiple times with the DPO before being allowed to try this on their own under the DPOs guidance. Each one worked hard and well in tonight’s training and many new things were seen, learned and discussed.
