Clintwood Fire Department will be hosting VDFP Basic Pump Operations on August 8–9, 2026.

This course is designed for firefighters looking to build or strengthen their knowledge of fire apparatus pump operations. Students will learn the fundamentals of pump operation, water supply, pressure calculations, hose line operations, drafting, relay pumping, and practical hands-on skills that can be applied on the fireground.

At 19:59, Clintwood Fire was dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 8600 block of Dickenson Hwy. While responding, additional information indicated multiple calls with heavy fire conditions visible. Clintwood Rescue arrived first on scene and advised responding units of a structure that was fully involved. Due to the volume of fire, Clinchco Fire Department was requested on the assignment. Engine 1 arrived shortly thereafter, confirmed a fully involved, single-story, wood-frame structure with fire extending throughout the entire building with collapse. The crew stretched a 300-foot attack line, and initiated fire attack, while Tanker 1 and Engine 2 fed water to Engine 1.

Firefighters operated in challenging conditions, working efficiently to knock down the fire load before transitioning into overhaul operations. Crews remained on scene extinguishing hot spots, opening up areas of concern, and ensuring the fire was completely extinguished. A search of the area surrounding the structure was conducted, and no occupants were located. Fortunately, no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported during the incident. Once all fire had been extinguished, overhaul was completed, and the scene was deemed safe, command terminated the incident. All units were accounted for, equipment was returned to service, and crews cleared the scene before returning to their stations.

Clintwood Fire Department extends its appreciation to the members of the Clinchco Fire Department for their response and assistance. Incidents like this highlight the importance of well trained firefighters, aggressive tactics, and strong mutual aid partnerships to protect our communities when they need us most.

Today we celebrate 250 years of American independence and the freedoms that unite us as one nation.

The members of the Clintwood Fire Department are honored to serve this community. We hope you enjoy this special day with family, friends, and neighbors while taking time to reflect on the sacrifices that have made our freedom possible.

Clintwood Fire Department would like to wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July weekend. We hope you enjoy the celebrations, cookouts, fireworks, and time with family and friends, but please celebrate responsibly.

With the hot weather expected this weekend, remember to stay hydrated, take breaks from the heat, check on children, elderly neighbors, and pets, and never leave anyone in a vehicle. Use extra caution with grills, fireworks, and outdoor burning, and keep a water source nearby.

Fireworks can be fun, but they can also cause serious injuries and fires when used carelessly. Please be respectful of your neighbors, use common sense, and know when it is truly an emergency.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Jettie Baker Center for allowing us to use their amazing facility for our Training on the Mountain lectures, The Jettie never dissapoints!

We were honored to host Social FD Kevin “KBill” Billingsley and National Fire Radio Jeremy Donch for an outstanding day of training, fellowship, and fire service discussion.

If you missed it this year, you truly missed out! Tell your firefighting friends, spread the word, and make plans to join us next year for more great lectures and training opportunities.

Due to the weather forecast, the Clintwood Fire Department Golf Tournament originally scheduled for May 22nd has been rescheduled to June 26th.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and continued support. We hope the new date will bring better weather and a great day on the course for everyone involved.

As Training on the Mountain 2026 has come to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on an incredible weekend of learning, brother and sister hood, and dedication to the fire service. Over the past few days, firefighters from across the region came together with one mission: to sharpen their skills and become better prepared to answer the call. From the opening lecture to the hands-on evolutions, every student showed a commitment to training, pushing themselves, and never becoming satisfied with where they are.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Kevin with Social FD for kicking off our weekend and bringing an outstanding message to our firefighters. Thank you to Jeremy with National Fire Radio for sharing your knowledge, passion, and experience with everyone in attendance. We also want to recognize Task Force 1 for providing exceptional hands-on instruction and helping make the practical portion of this event a success.

A huge thank you goes out to the Dickenson County School Board for allowing us to use their campus, Food City for their support and contributions, the Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP) for their continued support of firefighter training, and every sponsor who donated door prizes and helped make this event possible. Your generosity and investment in the fire service does not go unnoticed. To all of the students who attended, thank you for giving up your time, traveling from near and far, and putting in the hard work throughout the weekend. The willingness to train and improve is what keeps our communities safer.

Lastly, thank you to every member of Clintwood Fire Department and everyone behind the scenes who spent countless hours planning, preparing, and ensuring this event ran smoothly. Events like this do not happen overnight, and the dedication of our members is what made Training on the Mountain 2026 possible. This weekend was more than just training—it was about building relationships, sharing experiences, and remembering why we do the job. As we close the books on another successful year, we are already looking forward to what the future holds.
