The slash pit will be closed on the following dates:
For Memorial Day - May 23, 2026
For Juneteenth - June 20, 2026
For the 4th of July - July 4, 2026
For Labor Day - September 5, 2026
The opening day for the slash pit season is April 25, 2026
The closing day for the slash pit season will be October 24, 2026.

Good Morning!
We've been seeing some posts about when the slash pit will be open for the season. As of right now we are looking at the END of April. We will post a date as it gets closer. 🔥 Administrative Slash Pit Prescribed Fire Update – Feb. 2, 2026 | 10:00A.M.🔥

The planned Administrative Slash Pit Prescribed Pile Burn has been postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions causing poor ventilation rates for smoke dispersal.

Our crews have been closely monitoring forecasts in preparation for this week’s operations, as evaluating weather is a standard part of every prescribed burn. When conditions are not appropriate for burning, we postpone ignitions, as we did here.

We remain committed to reducing hazardous fuels and will continue to look for future opportunities to safely carry out this project. Updates will be shared here and, on our website, as new burn windows become available. Please follow us for the latest information.

Hey friends and neighbors!!! We are officially closed for the season. Thanks for a great summer. We had a record breaking season with the most loads into the slash pit. Once I get the total numbers, I will post them. (I ran out of fingers and toes to count on.. lol) Be on the lookout for changes for next season to make it run a little more efficiently. Thanks from the slashpit crew!

*EDIT: The total load count for the season is 1213 loads into the facility and 31 loads out.

For comparison last years total was 952 loads into and 44 loads out.

One person’s trash is another person’s treasure, so they say…. We received several loads of pine logs in the Slash Pit that are available if anyone wants them. It’s not too early to start stocking up fire wood for next winter. They are available for FREE on a first come first serve basis. No holds. No warranty, real or implied…. We are open today 4-19-25, until 4 pm and next Saturday from 9a-4p.
